That Dreaded TBR #72

Diving back in, and we’re still in December 2013. Quite different types of books popping up now, and if I had to guess I’d think they were likely ones recommended to me, or I stumbled across in the Goodreads recommendations (which I really enjoyed going through, until they started glitching on me because, well, my Want to Read shelf was way too big!). So, let’s see if we can do better than last time and get rid of a few more of these books!

Part 71

RULES

Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
Order on ascending date added.
Take the first 5/10/however many books. If done again, start from where you left off.
Read the synopses of the books
Decide: should it stay or should it go?

163. Dog Soldiers
Robert Stone

Genre: Crime
Published: January 1st, 1974

As interesting as this might sound, it really doesn’t sound like something I’d enjoy. This is a pretty easy decision.

Status: Gone

164. The Informers
Bret Easton Ellis

Genre: Contemporary
Published: July 26th, 1994

At one point, I wanted to read more Bret Easton Ellis – I quite liked American Psycho, and enjoyed the other of his books I read. But I think I’ve gone a bit past the point where I’d enjoy these as much as I used to.

Status: Gone

165. The Gathering
S.L. Dearing

Genre: Fantasy
Published: August 16th, 2010

I’m a bit uncertain about this one – on the one hand, the reviews seem to be pretty good, but on the other, I just don’t know – it might have some intriguing elements, but there’s nothing here that really grabs me and makes me feel like I definitely want to read this.

Status: Gone

166. Shadowland
Peter Straub

Genre: Horror
Published: October 1st, 1980

I’ve never read Peter Straub. He’s one of those authors I’ve long intended to read, but just haven’t got around to yet. I do have quite a few of his books on my want to read though, and at this point I don’t think I’ll get through all of them unless I really like them, so I think at least some of these books can go.

Status: Gone

167. The Hunger
Whitley Strieber

Genre: Horror
Published: January 1st, 1981

Vampires tend to be a much easier sell for me than almost anything else – I just find them really compelling and I love the variety in how they can be tackled. I might possibly have a copy of this around somewhere, but either way, I’m still interested in this one.

Status: Keep

For some reason, these ones felt pretty easy but sort of brutal, maybe a bit too easy? I guess it’s because I have a pretty solid idea of how I feel about these particular books, but they’re all pretty different from ones I’ve gone through before (aka, they’re not zombie books). But I’m very happy with reducing the Want to Read by another four books! We’re making (incredibly slow) progress!
