Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
It’s always exciting to discover new-to-me authors that I end up falling in love with through their words. It’s a thrill to open a book and be swept away by their work – exciting enough when it’s a debut author and I know there’s going to be more to look forward to, but thrilling when it’s (for example) the first book in a series and I now need to catch up!

Kate Heartfield
The Valkyrie was a book I thoroughly enjoyed, and I’m keen to check out more from this author. I loved the relationship between Brynhild and Gudrun, and the way things built up between them.
Jamison Shea
I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast Is Me was a debut novel that packed a punch – and I really think Shea is going to be one to watch out for. If you like YA Horror, definitely check this out, and I’m really excited to read the sequel, I Am the Dark that Answers When You Call.

Tori Bovalino
I was swept away by My Throat an Open Grave, and found it to be a really enjoyable, enchanting YA Horror. It’s a really good book and I loved the charactiersation of Leah and the Lord of the Wood.

Naina Kumar
I absolutely adored Kumar’s debut, Say You’ll Be My Jaan, and her second novel has just been released, so I have that to look forward to now, as well! Say You’ll was such a fun romantic novel with a fake engagement, and was definitely one of those “can’t put down” books.
Alexandra Potter
Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up really feels like a 2020s Bridget Jones. It’s funny and heart-warming and poignant generally just refreshing. It was such a fun book to read, and I look forward to reading the sequel.

Latrexa Nova
I think Jacked Up was one of my obsessions from last year. This is a book that has no right to be as good as it is – who knew a dark romance featuring a sentient jack-in-the-box would work so bloody well?
Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé, Adiba Jaigirdar
I’ve included both authors here as Four Eids and a Funeral was my introduction to both, but I very much look forward to read more books from both!
Four Eids and a Funeral Review
Emily Garside
As a person Emily is definitely not new to me, but last year I finally read both Love That Journey for Me and Gay Aliens and Queer Folk, which are both excellent books. That’s not surprising as they come from one of my favourite people, but if you like discussions of queer TV, you need to pick these two up.

Jaimie Admans
Christmas Ever After was a surprising delight, and I was very excited to find out it was actually the 4th book in a series. Definitely a series I’ll be going back to from book 1.
Have you read anything by these authors? If not, I definitely suggest checking them out. Who were some of your favourite new-to-you authors last year?
