But I’m a scaredy-cat…
More “dark and creepy” vibes than “you’ll never sleep again”

Starling House
Alix E. Harrow

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Harrow’s The Once and Future Witches, but I’d like to give this author another chance, and this book sounds interesting enough that I am intrigued by it.

Sisters of the Lost Nation
Nick Medina

Status: Hadn’t Heard Of

I’m surprised this one passed me by, but it sounds like something I’d find worth reading. It was also a nominee for Readers’ Favourite Horror the year it was released, so it’s one I want to check out.

A Season of Monstrous Conceptions
Lina Rather

This is definitely one I remember seeing when it first came out, and I was very intrigued by it. I still am, and really do want to read this at some point.

The Only One Left
Riley Sager

Status: Hadn’t Heard Of

This is a new one to me, but one that intrigues me with the premise – I really like books that contain a level of ambiguity, and the use of a rhyme here created about the murders Lenora has been accused of works well even just in the blurb. Also, I love Lenora as a name and it doesn’t get used often enough!

As always, if you’ve read any of these and want to share your thoughts on them please do let me know, and feel free to throw your recommendations at me. Lists like this really show how wide ranging the horror genre is, and how strong it’s been in recent years. Though I doubt I’ll be able to read all of the books on this list, there’s definitely a few I want to get to the top of my TBR at least.
