Monday Moods is a new bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!
I’ve been trying to read more non-fiction this year, and it’s going pretty well. Partly because of the Be Curious Reading Challenge, but where I’ve had suitable prompts, I’ve been seeking out non-fiction for other challenges, too. I do enjoy non-fiction for subjects that interest me, and I always end feeling like I haven’t been reading enough, so this year has been a nice change to that.
This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Non-Fiction
Monsterland
Nicholas Jubber

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 10th, 2025
I Want to Read This Because I’m intrigued by the possible blend of horror, history and travel. I added this to my Be Curious challenge without fully clicking it’s the same author as The Fairy Tellers, a book I really enjoyed, so now I’m even more keen to get to this one.
So You Want to Talk About Race
Ijeoma Oluo

Genre: Sociology/Politics
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: January 16th, 2018
I Want to Read This Because I think educating myself on situations and experiences outside my own is so incredibly important, for everyone. The focus on this book is on the States, and although racial issues are very present in the UK, there is a lot of ‘crossover’ too, and I think this book will help me in educating myself.
The Early Life of Walt Disney
Andrew Stanley Kiste

Genre: Biography
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: October 30th, 2021
I Want to Read This Because I am, down to my core, a Disney girl. Yes, the company have a lot of faults as does Walt Disney himself, and I find him a completely fascinating figure. I’m always intrigued to find out more about his actual life, and once you start digging into the man, you start seeing the connections to a lot of what he oversaw at the company. It looks like this book takes a fairly wide approach, too, looking at the world events which would have impacted Disney, another element I think is always important when considering historical figures.
ADHD Unpacked: Everything you need to know to survive and thrive as an adult with ADHD
Alex Conner, James Brown

Genre: Health
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 13th, 2025
I Want to Read This Because I may or may not have ADHD, and I definitely know a few people who do have ADHD – with the ways things currently are, maybe I’ll never get diagnosed, but maybe one day I’ll be able to save up the money to go private. In the meantime, I think books like this are so incredibly important in understanding ND in general, especially when it’s so hard to get diagnosed.
Enchanted Wales: Myth and Magic in Welsh Storytelling
Miranda Aldhouse-Green

Genre: History – Mythology
Age: Adult
Format: Hardback
Published: October 5th, 2023
I Want to Read This Because I picked it up at a book event where Miranda Aldhouse-Green discussed some of the book, and talked about how archaeology can shine a light on some of the Celtic myths. I found it utterly fascinating. I’ve since read Alice Roberts’ The Celts, and I feel like it’s given me such an excellent grounding before I read this one.
So, what do you think? Have you read any of these and want to share your thoughts? Or maybe you have some non-fiction recommendations, or titles on your TBR you’re really looking forward to. Just let me know!
