Monday Moods: Educational

Monday Moods is a new bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

‘Educational’ is, I think, very subjective. What might be educational to one person might not be to another, but I thought it’d make for an intriguing prompt. And I think it helped me pull out some books I might have overlooked before. These are all on my TBR, so hopefully I’ll be able to read all of them at some point!

This Week, I’m in the Mood For Something…
Educational

ADHD Unpacked
Alex Conner, James Brown

Genre: Non-Fiction – Health
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 13th, 2025

I Want to Read This Because I want to find out more about ADHD! I mentioned other reasons in my previous Non-Fiction post, and this has cropped up again because it’s very much at the top of my TBR. So yes, I want to read it because I think it’ll possibly help me, but it’ll definitely help some of my loved ones, too.

So You Want to Talk About Race
Ijeoma Oluo

Genre: Sociology/Politics
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: January 16th, 2018

I Want to Read This Because it’s about time I did! This was another one mentioned in the previous post, and as noted there, I do think educating myself on things like race is important. This has been pushed back on my TBR for a while (due to various factors), but like the book above it’s currently near the top, so I should be reading it relatively soon.

Blitzkrieg Bops: A Brief History of Punks at War
Alli Patton

Genre: Non-Fiction – History – Music
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: July 1st, 2024

I Want to Read This Because 404 have some excellent books in their Inklings series, and I’m really excited for all of them. This tops the list though because it’s talking about punk music, which I’m always drawn to.

Bookish: How Reading Shaped Our Lives
Lucy Mangan

Genre: Non-Fiction – Biography/Memoir
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 13th, 2025

I Want to Read This Because I love reading books, talking about books, listening to books, and listening to people talk about books, so why wouldn’t I enjoy reading about books?

Blind Spot: Exploring and Educating on Blindness
Maud Rowell

Genre: Non-Fiction – Disability
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: November 9th, 2021

I Want to Read This Because this is another of the 404 Inklings series, and I’d like to get through as many of them as possible, but this was in the first few I purchased because, again, it’s so important to educate ourselves on experiences outside our own.

Five books I’m hoping will be educational, in different ways. And feel free to let me know your book recommendations, or ‘educational’ books you really liked.
