Monday Moods: Music

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

Ah, music. There are so many different ways music is reflected in books, whether it’s non-fiction about musicians or fiction based around them, or a history of music and the culture surrounding it, there are as many different ways to approach music in books as there are, well, genres of music! So, what books are on my TBR featuring music…

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Music

The Mercury in Me
Rachael Fernandes

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Young Adult
Format: ebook
Published: June 6th, 2024

I Want to Read This Because it looks really sweet, and the title is referencing the legendary Freddie Mercury. This one is lurking near the top of my TBR, so I expect I’ll be reading it relatively soon.

Blitzkrieg Bops: A Brief History of Punks at War
Alli Patton

Genre: Non-Fiction – History
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: July 1st, 2024

I Want to Read This Because it’s part of the 404 Inklings series, and if I’m honest, I want to read as many of these as possible. This one jumped out to me though (hence why I purchased it) due to the topic. I love punk music and I like reading the history behind music, and this sounds like it’s going to go to some very interesting places.

Fallen Legend
Emmanuelle Snow

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 1st, 2024

I Want to Read This Because it’s contemporary romance, but it’s a bit different to the contemporary romance I’ve read before. I haven’t really explored the ‘rockstar romance’ side yet, though I own plenty of books featuring that trope. This one is a little different to them in that it’s a former rock star, but it sounds like an interesting, emotional story.

House of Idyll
Delilah S. Dawson

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Release Date: September 9th, 2025

I Want to Read This Because although I haven’t read Dawson’s work, I have heard great things, and I have a few Dawson books on my TBR. This, like the others, sounds intriguing as hell – centred around a struggling singer/songwriter who joins an experimental luxury compound, sponsored by band Black Idyll. I’m keen to dig in.

The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits
Jennifer Weiner

Genre: Historical / Contemporary
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 8th, 2025

I Want to Read This Because again, it sounds a little different, but something I’d enjoy – even if it is really standing out to me that ‘early 2000s’ has now fallen into ‘historical’. I do like the sound of this, and I’m intrigued about that caused them to split, and how they might get back together.

If you’ve read any of these I’d love to hear what you thought – if you enjoyed them or not. And let me know your recommendations, too.
