Monday Moods: Sequels

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

I love when I pick up a first book in a series and absolutely love it, and I love even more when the next book lands on my TBR! There are a few series I really need to pick back up again, but these are five books on my TBR that I’m really looking forward to, and which are the second books in each of their series.

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Sequels

Fear Ground
Jennifer Killick

Genre: Horror
Age: Middle Grade
Format: Paperback
Published: September 1st, 2022
Series: Dread Wood

I Want to Read This Because I loved Dread Wood – it really carried that youth horror tone I remember from books like Goosebumps and Point Horror, and it was just overall a really fun read. This one sounds equally as interesting, with a new game introduced via an app and a creepy fair ground added into the mix.

A Raven’s Heart
K.C. Bateman

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: October 16th, 2016
Series: Secrets and Spies

I Want to Read This Because it returns to some of the characters we glimpsed in the first book, which I really enjoyed! The first book was a nice blend of mystery, action and romance, with some very memorable scenes and lots of spy intrigue. I’m hoping for more of the same here!

The Transylvania Twist
Angie Fox

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: February 26th, 2013
Series: Monster M*A*S*H

I Want to Read This Because I am so excited to continue Petra’s story! I loved the first book, and found the characters, setting and premise really interesting. Petra is a surgeon working for a bunch of gods during their ongoing war. The first book was very entertaining.

The Shadow Cabinet
Juno Dawson

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: Hardback
Published: June 20th, 2023
Series: Her Majesty’s Royal Coven

I Want to Read This Because I need to know the rest of the story! And it’s been a good long while since I read Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, but that ending…well, a proper cliff-hanger! So I really do need to know what happens next.

The Dragon’s Promise
Elizabeth Lim

Genre: Fantasy – Romance
Age: Young Adult
Format: ebook
Published: August 30th, 2022
Series: Six Crimson Cranes

I Want to Read This Because I had it on my TBR before I read Six Crimson Cranes, because it’s Elizabeth Lim and I know I’m always going to enjoy her books. She’s one of my favourite writers, and now I’ve read Six Crimson Cranes (which was fantastic), I’m even more excited for this one!

What are some of your favourite sequels? Any on your TBR you’re really looking forward to?
