Monday Moods: Werewolves

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

Although I’m not doing Blogtober this year (and will likely post something explaining why), I thought October felt like a fitting month for some spooky season themed Monday Moods prompts! So check out the page if you’re taking part in Blogtober and want some ideas, or if you just want to take part in Monday Moods!

Although my favourite spooky monster is the vampire, I do love werewolves. I love that they often come hand-in-hand (hand-in-paw?) too. Werewolves are also versatile – they can be heroes and villains, love interests or rivals, or just an enemy to another monster. I’m currently reading A Hunger Like No Other, and the way werewolves are written there is fantastic. Let’s hope these five books on my TBR can match up!

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Werewolves

Blood of the Pack
Cassie Alexander

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: July 19th, 2016

I Want to Read This Because it’s fairly different than the type of books I usually read, but contains a lot of elements (typically paranormal) that I know I enjoy. And it’s focused on a werewolf AND a vampire, so I’m sure that’ll make for some interesting tension.

Above the Circle of the Moon
T.M. Tucker

Genre: Historical Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: May 15th, 2020

I Want to Read This Because it sounds intriguing – I quite like Historical Fantasy when it’s done well, and I haven’t seen a whole lot that involve werewolves (or maybe I’m not looking in the right places…), so this caught my eye.

Such Sharp Teeth
Rachel Harrison

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: October 4th, 2022

I Want to Read This Because I have a few of Rachel Harrison’s books on my TBR, and really need to crack on with reading them! This one stands out as it features a protagonist who turns into a werewolf. It feels like werewolves are all too often male, so it’s a little refreshing to have a female werewolf, instead.

Blood Vice
Angela Roquet

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: June 27th, 2017

I Want to Read This Because Urban Fantasy is where I most often came across werewolves in my younger years, especially in books that were, more often than not, about vampires. I’ve been itching to dive back into these paranormal Urban Fantasy books for a while now, and this seems perfect for me.

Bored Gay Werewolf
Tony Santorella

Genre: Fantasy Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: June 1st, 2023

I Want to Read This Because I did hear quite a lot of buzz for this book around its release, and it sounds interesting and different. It’s also queer, but the themes it tackles sound like the kind of things you don’t often come across in fantasy and/or horror – though, again, if you have any recommendations for me, please do let me know!

So, five werewolf books on my TBR. And if you have read any of these and want to share your thoughts on them, please feel free to drop a link to your review(s) below!
