2025 Reading Challenges Update #10

This is where I start entering mild panic mode – I definitely, absolutely took on too many challenges this year, and though I’ve loved each individual challenge and the opportunity to explore books across various genres, I absolutely need to cut down on the ones I’m doing for next year. Anyway, let’s see how I did in October!

Goal: 63/70 (+6)

Musicals Reading Challenge 2025

Read

Wicked – What Is This Feeling? – Sapphic

For this one, I read Arizona Tape’s Her Rival Dragon Mate. I loved it! It was one of the books I picked up during Queer Your eReader, so I was very excited to finally dive in.

Books to Read: Tell Me I’m Worthless, Love at First Psych, Ahsoka

2025 TV Shows Reading Challenge

Read

Teen Wolf – A book featuring creatures: werewolves, banshees…

I really, really liked A Hunger Like No Other. It completely transported me back to my late teen years of reading paranormal romance, and it’s a series I’ll absolutely be continuing. Hopefully I can find a suitable prompt for the next book in 2026’s reading challenges.

Books to Read: The Wedding Witch

Technology – Today a central part of our live. How does it work? What does it do to us? Or for us?

So, I have completed this challenge! Though there are a few bonus prompts with this one, too, so I might go for them as well. For this particular prompt, I read Invisible Women – which is excellent, informative, and infuriating. But it does put into context why so many things just feel wrong. Office temperature? Not designed for women. Hand dryer placements? Not designed for women. Mobile phones? Not…well, you get the picture.

Astronomie/ Astrophysics –  Our blue dot is just a small part of something much bigger

Alien Earths was excellent and, again, incredibly informative…though some of it did go over my head! It’s definitely written for a wide audience, but some of it I didn’t quite grasp, or it was just a little too much data for me. Still, if you’re interested in space, definitely check it out.

About Books – And of course books. Everything about books. Words, Writers, Styles, Epoches, crafts, preservation, indulgence. Everything.

I was less impressed with Bookish than the other books I read for this challenge over the last month. My full thoughts will be in my review, but overall I don’t think the ‘humour’ landed too well. Still, a worthwhile read at points.

Books to Read: The End of Bias, Black Klansman, Bloody Valentine

Romance Readers Diversity Challenge 2025
10/12, +1 Bonus (+1) Prompts Completed

A book with indigenous representation

I struggled a little finding a book for this that I could get hold of – originally, I was looking for an audiobook, but the physical for The Truth According to Ember I found for relatively cheap, so managed to pick that up. And I’m so glad I did! I’m enjoying it. It’s sweet and Ember is pretty funny!

Read

A book featuring an asian male lead – Asian men tend to get looked over as romantic leads, so focusing on an asian male lead will help break those expectations!

I really wanted to like The Mercury in Me more than I did. It’s a sweet enough story, but it felt like there were a few too many gaps for me. Still, enjoyable enough.

Books to Read: Wish You Were Her, Lap Dance! for Dystopia, A Thief and a Gentleman

2025 SFF Title Challenge

sorcery

I was very excited to pick up Sorcery and Small Magics, and so far I’m loving it! The MC reminds me a little of the MC from Voyage of the Damned, and I love that kind of dry wit in a character.

Books to Read: Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, Down in the Sea of Angels, The Path of Thorns

Netflix Movies & TV Shows
16/24 (0) Prompts Completed

So, yeah – no movement on this one. Again. It’ll have to, once more, be pushed into next year. I’ll be doing less challenges next year, and I’ll definitely be looking for prompts where I can use the rest of the books on this challenge, too, as that’s helped me clear some this year! Who knows, maybe 2026 will finally be the year I finish this challenge!

Books to Read: So You Want to Talk About Race, All That Remains, A Discovery of Witches

Not done too bad this month – though I’m not as far ahead on these challenges as I would like! Though that is one completed, but I’d like to try and get the bonus ones for that done, too, though we’ll see how it goes!
