Monday Moods: Fire

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

This week’s prompt was originally going to be fireworks, as it’s Bonfire Night here in the UK on Wednesday, but I…realised that’s quite a tricky one! So I settled for simply fire, instead. What books have you enjoyed featuring fires? Any upcoming titles that allude to fires (burning, sparks, flames…) you’re looking forward to, or books on your TBR with fire on the cover?

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Fire

The Siege of Burning Grass
Premee Mohamed

Genre: Fantasy – Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: March 12th, 2024

I Want to Read This Because the cover is striking, and the blurb sounds interesting, as well as fairly different from some of the other stuff I’ve been reading this year. It’s coming up on a reading challenge, so hopefully I’ll get to it by the end of the year, as I am really looking forward to it!

Chaos and Ash
Carrie Pulkinen

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: November 14th, 2023

I Want to Read This Because there’s a lot of Fantasy Romance books out there that aren’t ‘romantasy’, especially in the indie space, and I’m having a lot of fun exploring them. This sounds like it’s going to be fun, with a witch librarian who possesses herself with a demon. Sounds like sparks will fly!

The Gods Must Burn
T.R. Moore

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Expected Publication: February 24th, 2026

I Want to Read This Because it sounds awesome! A transformed war hero and a Forest God must work together to protect a forest. Sounds like it could be tense in multiple ways, and it already has a few five star ratings. Hopefully this lives up to expectations!

Ignite
T. Reece

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: July 29th, 2024

I Want to Read This Because moving away from fantasy…firefighters! What’s not to love about a firefighter focused romance? I’m still kind of moving my way through the huge variety romance has to offer, so I’m excited to read this one, having not really read a first responder/firefighter romance before.

Hearts on Fire: Six Years that Changed Canadian Music 2000–2005
Michael Barclay

Genre: Non-Fiction – Music
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 26th, 2022

I Want to Read This Because lastly, we have something completely different – non-fiction! I really enjoy reading about music, and usually end up searching out more songs I haven’t heard before from whatever I’m reading, or reconnecting with songs I maybe haven’t listened to in a while. As 2000 – 2005 covers my pre-teen and early teen years, too, there’s quite a few artists from this time who I really enjoyed, and even in the blurb I notice a few names leaping right out at me (Tegan and Sara, for starters).

A few fiery books to hopefully keep me warm over the colder months! As always, let me know if you have any recommendations or the books on your TBR you’re looking forward to reading.
