Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!
There’s a few gothic books on my TBR, some which lean more towards horror, others towards romance. And I feel like November is a good time to sink into gothic books, so here’s 5 of the gothic books I’m looking forward to reading.
This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Gothic
Tell Me I’m Worthless
Alison Rumfitt

Genre: Gothic Horror
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 28th, 2021
I Want to Read This Because this one is still on my TBR! I am really looking forward to this, just haven’t quite got to it yet, but I am close. Hopefully going to finish this before the end of this year.
Gothic Short Stories
Edited by David Blair

Genre: Gothic – Classics
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: September 5th, 2002
I Want to Read This Because this is one of those books I get excited about, then kind of…forget I have…does that happen to anyone else? I do want to read this, though I suspect I’ve come across the majority of stories in here in other formats. I think there’s a handful in here that’ll be new to me though, and a chance to revisit some old favourites!
Dracula’s Bride
Rebekah R. Ganiere

Genre: Gothic Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: April 3rd, 2019
I Want to Read This Because it’s something a bit different from the previous books, focusing more on the romance than the horror. This book is a reimagining of Dracula, where Mina escapes to London, away from her siblings (Arthur, Quincey, and Lucy) and meets Count Vlad “Blue” Draugr. I think this will, at least, be interesting!
Still She Wished for Company
Margaret Irwin

Genre: Historical – Gothic
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: January 1st, 1924
I Want to Read This Because I do occasionally enjoy going back and reading older books – it’s always interesting to see older versions of particular genres, as well as exploring classics and seeing where they’ve influenced more modern works. So I’m looking forward to this one!
Shakespearean Gothic
Christy Desmet and Anne Williams

Genre: Non-Fiction – History – Literature
Age: Adult
Format: Hardback
Published: September 27th, 2009
I Want to Read This Because I also enjoy reading non-fiction that explores horror in various ways. I really enjoyed Welsh Gothic (another book in this series) and picked this up at the same time. Hopefully after this I can pick up more in the Gothic Literary Studies series!
Bit of a late post today due to being pretty busy last week, but as always if you have recommendations or suggestions for other books, or gothic books on your TBR you’d like to share, I’d love to hear from you!
