Let’s Talk Bookish 21st November:
End-of-Year Reading Goals?
Prompts: What books do you want to read before the end of the year? Are there any new releases you’re still looking forward to? What goals did you set at the beginning of the year? Have you changed or added to those goals?
By the end of the year, I’m hoping to have read all the books on my reading challenges. There’s quite a few left to go, so it’s really up in the air about whether or not I will complete them! I have, however, managed to complete a couple, or only have one book left, but there are also a couple of bonus books on these I’d really like to get to, if I have time. I am also very close to hitting my total read books target, so that’s a positive at least!
As for new releases, I have some on my TBR, though I really don’t pay a whole load of attention to what’s coming out and when! Most festive books will be out by now, anyway, and if I recall correctly, not a whole lot tends to land in December itself. I am, however, hoping for a few new books to add to my TBR once Christmas comes and goes.
My main goals at the beginning of the year were my overall reading goal (70) and my reading challenges. Part of my goals for this year were reading a bit more SF and Non-Fiction, which was why I picked out the 2025 SFF Title Challenge and Be Curious – Non-Fiction Challenge 2025. I’ve also been doing the Romance Readers Diversity Challenge 2025, in an attempt to read more diversely within romance. I think for all three I feel like I’ve done pretty well – read some sci-fi, read a lot of non-fiction, which has been great, and definitely more diverse romance!
I haven’t changed my goals, as I set these reading challenges at the start of the year. I have, however, been thinking about my approach and the amount of challenges I’ve had, and although I know I can easily hit 70 books in a year, completing the actual challenges has been a struggle. So, next year, I’m going to do less. I’m going to do my Musicals Challenge, a horror challenge I’m working on setting up, and maybe just one other prompt based challenge and one genre challenge, though I’m not sure yet which genre I’d like to focus on alongside horror.
Have you taken part in any challenges this year? How are your goals going? I’m still hopeful with mine, although not completely sure how I’ll finish them off between now and the end of December!

Ooh, I haven’t heard of the Romance Readers Diversity Challenge but that sounds interesting! Does that happen every year? I’ve not changed my goals from the beginning of the year either, but I’ve also been reflecting a lot on how this year has gone (so not according to plan, lol) and so I’ll probably be changing my overall reading goal next year and the number of challenges I do. Great post and thanks for joining LTB this week 🙂
