Whether you’re a regular reader of this blog or just happened to come across this post today, all I really have to say today is…
Merry Christmas!
Whatever it is you’re doing today, I hope you get to spend time with the people you want to spend time with, have time to decompress if you need, and are able to sneak away to pick up what you thought would be that brand new book you got in the morning and have been thinking about all day, but which ends up being the book that’s been on your shelf for months because for some reason you’ve also been thinking of that one all day! I hope your old books are looking at your new books with envy, and I hope in with those new books is one that’ll have such an impact on you you champion it everywhere.
I hope your day is full of tasty foods and drinks, warmth and cheer.
If today is a struggle, you’re not alone. There are plenty of reasons this day might be hard for people, and plenty of ways it might become hard in the future. If today is hard, then I hope you’re able to find some comfort, whether that’s completely ignoring the day and watching your favourite films, or bowing out of festivities when they get too much, and being surrounded by people who understand and encourage you to do what you need to do.
Even for those of us who celebrate and enjoy Christmas, it can still be a lot! So make sure you take some time for yourself, too, have a cry if you need it, or just five minutes peace. For me, Christmas comes with many, many mixed feelings. It’s a hard time of year, it’s dark and miserable outside, but seeing twinkling Christmas lights and enjoying good food and giving my loved ones presents are the things that make the day special for me, even if it comes with a heavy sadness, too. So I hope you have or are able to find those little things for yourself, and I hope whatever your plans are for today, you enjoy them.

Same to you!
