Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!
There are always books I intend to read that I don’t seem to quite get to! These may be specific seasonal books I wanted to read (usually Christmas romances!) or it might be that they were on certain challenges and I didn’t ‘clear’ them before the challenge finished. So here are a few of the books on my TBR for this year that I was intending to read in 2025.
This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Books I Should Have Read Last Year
Bloody Valentine: The Story of Britain’s Worst Miscarriage of Justice
John L. Williams

Genre: Nonfiction – True Crime
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: February 18th, 2021
I Want to Read This Because I’ve mentioned this book a few times on this blog, especially in Monday Moods, and my answer really is the same – I grew up hearing about this, I remember seeing graffiti referring to The Cardiff 3, and think it’s an incredibly important part of Cardiff’s history (unfortunately).
A Thief and a Gentleman
Arden Powell

Genre: Historical Fantasy Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: July 24th, 2023
I Want to Read This Because I really enjoy historical fantasy, and I especially adore queer historical romance! I like seeing how different writers tackle being queer in historical contexts, but the fantasy element allows for a bit more room I think. And this is a standalone in a larger series, so if I enjoy it, there’s more books for me to read!
Tell Me I’m Worthless
Alison Rumfitt

Genre: Gothic Horror
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: October 28th, 2021
I Want to Read This Because this is another one that’s cropped up on these lists a few times – this was recommended by a friend who always has excellent book suggestions, so I have no doubt I’ll enjoy this!
Maria the Wanted and the Legacy of the Keepers
V. Castro

Genre: Horror – Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: November 28th, 2018
I Want to Read This Because I have been meaning to read this for so long! I really enjoy V. Castro’s work, and my love of vampires is never-ending, so I reckon this will be perfect for me.
Three Holidays and a Wedding
Uzma Jalaluddin, Marissa Stapley

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: September 23rd, 2023
I Want to Read This Because it sounds so different and fun and cute and I am absolutely determined to read it this year! No matter the time of year, I’m going to make sure I read it – I was trying to read it over Christmas but unfortunately things got in the way.
Are there any books on your TBR you were intending to read last year, and are now determined to read this year? Or are you much better at planning your reading than I am and, if you decide you’ll read a book in a particular year, you read it then? (Something I’m not always the best at!) And if you have read any of the above, I’d love to hear what you thought!
