Monday Moods: Humour

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

With April starting, of course, with April Fools, it seems like a good time to jump in with some funny books. Did you see any bookish pranks last week? Let me know of your favourites in the comments.

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Humour

Butcher & Blackbird
Brynne Weaver

Genre: Dark Romance
Age: Adult
Format: Audiobook
Published: 15th August, 2023

I Want to Read This Because this has been sitting in my Audible library for quite a long time! It sounds really interesting and unique, and like something I might quite enjoy, especially with the “dark romantic comedy” element.

Hex and the City
Kate Johnson

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: 3rd September, 2023

I Want to Read This Because it just sounds delightful and witchy! And pretty funny, especially with the main character having “magical hair like Rapunzel from Tangled”. I got this in a book box quite a while ago, but haven’t got to it yet – hopefully I’ll be able to read it soon!

A Scot Mess
Caroline Lee

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 9th April, 2020

I Want to Read This Because comedy of errors with mistaken identity gags sounds so, so fun! I enjoy historical romance and bonus points when it is funny, so I feel like if the humour hits in this one I’ll love it!

Vampires at Sea
Lindsay Merbaum

Genre: Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 7th October, 2025

I Want to Read This Because vampires in a “smutty, super-queer horror-comedy”, what more could a girl ask for? Especially this girl, who loves anything vampires and extra appreciates when a writer does something different with them!

The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum
Serena Terry

Genre: Contemporary
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: 3rd March, 2022

I Want to Read This Because I read The Sh!te Before Christmas (the sequel) as an arc, and knew immediately after finishing I had to read this one – the Christmas book is brilliantly funny, and I have high expectations for this one, as well as feeling keen to see how Tara ends up where she does at the start of that one!

Five (hopefully!) funny books that will, fingers crossed, have me in stitches! Do you have any humorous books on your TBR, or any recommendations for books you’ve read that stand out as being funny? Let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to drop a link to your post if you take part in Monday Moods, too!
