Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!
Looking over my past Monday Moods, I was surprised I hadn’t actually done Regency yet! I really like Regency works, and though the list today is very romance focused, I quite like reading historical fantasy set during the regency, too.
This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Regency
The Convenient Marriage
Georgette Heyer

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: 1st January, 1934
I Want to Read This Because I’ve read two Heyer books previously, and really, really enjoyed them! I’m very keen to read even more, and this is one of the ones that caught my eye, especially with the premise of the “least attractive” sister trying desperately to prevent her older sister marrying the “enigmatic and eminently eligible Earl of Rule”, for her sister’s own sake. If you’re not aware of Heyer, her works basically informed the modern day regency romance genre.
False Lights
K.J. Whittaker

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: 7th September, 2017
I Want to Read This Because I can’t quite remember how I came across this one – I think I must have been looking for regency books and saw this recommended somewhere. It sounds intriguing though, mixing regency romance with fantasy in an alternative timeline where England is under French occupation.
Midnight Masquerade
Halley Larkin

Genre: Historical Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 10th January, 2022
I Want to Read This Because quite simply, it sounds intriguing! A young woman faces an uncertain future with her father’s illness. At a masquerade ball, Charmaine Brightley meets Duke Konstantin Rostov, forced to abandon Russia after an ill-fated duel. I admit, I love stories where the characters have these kind of backgrounds and which feel like they really have to fight for their HEA, so I’m excited for this one.
A Gentlewoman’s Guide to Murder
Victoria Hamilton

Genre: Historical Mystery
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 8th February, 2019
I Want to Read This Because not every Regency needs to be a romance, and I’m always a little excited to see how other genres treat this era. This sounds especially intriguing, with the mix of historical and mystery, set among London’s ton.
Georgette Heyer’s Regency World
Jennifer Kloester

Genre: Non-Fiction – History
Age: Adult
Format: Paperback
Published: 6th October, 2005
I Want to Read This Because this has been sitting on my shelf for quite a while, just waiting for me to read a few more Heyer books so I can dive into and fully appreciate this. I’ve been doing a little bit of non-fiction regency reading, and I love learning about the era from that aspect. I think delving into this side makes me appreciate reading the fiction more, too, as it allows me to understand the world better and appreciate when authors really get it right.
Are there any regency books on your TBR you’re really looking forward to, or any regency recommendations you want to tell me about?
