Things really come to a head in this fourth volume of The Wicked + The Divine, and it feels like an ending, even if it’s not the ending. As suggested by the title, there’s plenty of action in this volume, as gods argue and clash. There’s a couple of twists, nothing overbearing, and a solid pace carried throughout.

I don’t think 4 is as good as Volumes 1 + 2, but it feels like there’s some strength regained here that was lost a little with Volume 3, and the way this one left off, I’m definitely invested in reading on – a little more so than with Volume 3. Even though I did enjoy that one, it still feels like the weakest so far.

We get a lot tied up in this volume, as the events we’ve been building up to come to a head, secrets are spilled and the characters have to decide where their true allegiances lie. The artwork here is gorgeous, with the kinds of panels you can stare at for ages admiring the details. It’s nice after the mish mash with the previous volume!

It really feels like multiple characters come into their own, stretching to their strengths and forging their own paths, some with great difficultly. It’s a great volume, and I look forward to seeing exactly where this story goes next!
