For anyone who may not have seen it, I have a new project! Along with my good friend Regi (one of the Divination Hollow contributors), I host Esbat: A Bookish Podcast. So far we have four episodes out (including the introduction episode) and release every two weeks. We’re really enjoying ourselves with this so far, talking to various guests about SFF & Horror books written by diverse voices. You can find more detail on Anchor, or search us using your favourite podcatcher.
Our episodes and guests so far are –
Whispers in the Dark with S.H. Cooper
Her Body and Other Parties with Laurel Hightower
Tell Me I’m Worthless with Dai Baddley
Future episodes cover books such as Ring Shout, Lore and To Summon Nightmares, discussing these with some absolutely fantastic guests, as well as a host-only episode where we dig into retellings.
One thing I’m really loving about this so far is the variety of books guests are selecting. We don’t try to guide them, simply ask that they pick a SFF or Horror novel, written by someone who is not a cis het white man. We also let them direct the way the conversation goes, and it’s resulted in some very interesting discussions so far!
Something we’re really keen on doing with the podcast, too, is focusing not just on writers, but on different people involved in SFF & Horror, including reviewers, bloggers, artists, etc. It’s great to talk to writers, of course, but so many podcasts out there are focused on the writers, we wanted to shine a light on the other amazing people who love books in these genres!
So, if you like podcasts and books, please do give it a listen! And if you do have feedback you want to give or even if you want to appear as a guest, just drop us an email at esbatbookish[@]gmail.com. We can’t wait to hear from you!
