I actually did this tag way back in 2019, but as that was a long time ago I thought it’d be fun to do it again this year for Blogmas. I feel like I’ve come a long way with blogging since those far off, pre-pandemic days – since then I’ve joined NetGalley and received way more arcs than I could possibly ever read (oops). I think I’ll end up on the naughty list this year, but let’s dive in and see!
Received an ARC and not reviewed it
Yes
I honestly have so many arcs it’s a struggle to keep up with them all!
Have less than 60% feedback rating on NetGalley
Yes
I can’t see me getting above this any time soon. I have a self-control issue when it comes to requesting books, though I do try and resist the urge, but so many publishers seem more than happy to approve me, even with my terrible ratio. Still, next year I really want to focus on improving my ratio. Won’t be easy.
Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)
No
I don’t tend to do this anyway (that is, noting on Goodreads a short review with full review to come or similar). I understand why people do, but I prefer to write the review, get it on the blog, then add it to Goodreads at a later date.
Folded down the page of a book
Yes
I always used to do this, many years ago. Then I stopped, as I realised I’d built up quite a nice collection of bookmarks and it was such a shame not to use them!
Accidentally spilled on a book
No
Not that I can remember, anyway! I know I can be clumsy at times so on the rare occasions I’m having a drink and reading at the same time, I try and be extra careful.
DNF a book this year
Yes
I used to never DNF, but now…who has the time not to? If I’m not engaged with a book or grow quickly frustrated with it for any reason, I’ll DNF it now. Too many books, too little time.
Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it
No
To be honest, I try and stop myself buying books nowadays, and when I do they tend to be on my Kindle rather than physical. And any books I do buy I absolutely intend on reading – whether I actually do or not is another matter!
Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)
Yes
I absolutely, definitely have done this before. Nowadays, my reading time is my reading time, and I refuse to feel guilty for it.
Skim read a book
No
Can’t say this is something I’ve ever done. I’ve always been a fairly fast reader though, so I guess it’s largely because I’ve never really felt like I needed to skim read something.
Completely missed your Goodreads goal
No
Not as far as I can remember. I usually try and keep them at a manageable level though, choosing an amount I feel pretty sure I can hit. During 2020 I did extend it a few times, but since then I’ve kept it the same and just been happy if I’ve exceeded it.
Borrowed a book and not returned it
Yes
I think? Honestly some of the books I have I kind of lost track of where they’ve come from, though I don’t think I have any I was meant to return and didn’t. Saying that, I’d answer yes for this anyway, as I definitely borrowed books from my partner before we moved in together so…the only place they could be returned then was also the same place where I am?
Broke a book buying ban
Yes
Okay, in all fairness…who hasn’t? There’s just so many good books out there!
Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about
No
I try and write down my reviews as soon as possible after finishing the book, when it’s still fresh in my mind. I also edit them, which might be a couple of days later, but that allows me to think a little more about it and add in anything else that comes to mind.
Wrote in a book you were reading
No
Not something I tend to do. I read a lot from my kindle now, and anything that requires noting down I tend to have a notebook nearby for that anyway.
Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads
Yes
I haven’t (yet) added my BBNYA books to Goodreads, as we keep the books we’ve read a secret until results are revealed. But the competition was definitely very tough this year!
Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book
No
Nope! I’m usually the person offering my books for others to read, when I can.
Broke the spine of someone else’s book
No
I would never!
Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged
No
I’m not the biggest fan of hardback books, but when I do get them I don’t tend to take the jacket off anyway.
Sat on a book accidentally
Yes
I mean…they really are everywhere!

I’m actually quite surprised at this…looks like I made the Nice list! I really thought I’d end up with coal in my stocking instead. Have you done this tag? How did you do? Not tagging anyone but if you want to give this a go please feel free!
Book tag originally comes from Jenniely so make sure you visit her blog, too.
