 2022 Reading & Blogging Reflections

Prompts: Happy almost New Year’s Eve! How many books did you read in 2022? Did you meet your reading goals? What were some of your favorites? What were your least favorite books you read this year? How did you feel about your blogging in 2022? What are your favorite posts you wrote in 2022? What are some of your favorite posts from the community that you read this year?

I really can’t believe this year is almost over! So much has happened in the last twelve months, and it’s nice to take a step back and consider the last year with today’s Let’s Talk Bookish topic. Although I am writing this up a little early, I don’t expect too much to change with my answers within the next week, though I might read a couple more books before the year finishes.

At the moment, I’ve read 92 books this year. I’m pretty chuffed with that, especially as it does mean I met my reading goal! Last year I decided to pick a number on the lower end (compared to what I’ve been reading the last few years) and just try to hit that, rather than what I did before which was set my goal, then extend it if it looks like I’ll easily hit it. That said I do tend to check my goal around June, and might extend it a little if I think it’s worth it. My goal for this year was 60, so I am definitely happy with 89.

Some of my favourite books I read this year (with links to the reviews) have been Regency Buck, Nettle & Bone, and Half a Soul, though that’s a hard choice as it feels like I’ve had a really good reading year. Least favourites have been The Ghost of Glendale, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century 1969, and The Rose Kiss. They just weren’t really my cup of tea, but that’s inevitable when you read so many – there’s always bound to be ones you just don’t get along with.

I feel like this is the year I really hit my stride with blogging. I’ve been able to plan better, have a schedule to make it easier for myself, and started participating more in various things. I also successfully did Blogtober, and it looks like I’ll hit 31 posts for Blogmas, too.

It’s hard to pick out my favourite posts from this year! In general, I’ve really enjoyed Top Ten Tuesday, Let’s Talk Bookish and Book Blogger Hop, and I absolutely love reading other blogger’s posts on the various topics and themes. I don’t think I really have specific posts that are my favourites, either from my own or from the community. I follow so many excellent bloggers who are constantly putting out brilliant content, it’s really hard to pick.

I feel like I’ve come really far as a blogger this year, and hope I can continue that into 2023. What about you – how do you feel about blogging in the last year?
