Book Blogger Hop: December 30th – January 5th

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, it was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

In 2022, how many books did you read?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

As of the time of writing this, I’ve read 93 books so far this year. There’s still a few days to go until December 31st however, so I might be able to finish off the couple I’m currently reading before the year is finished. I love seeing how many books I’ve managed to read in a year, and whether I’ve read more or less than the year before. This year I set my goal at 60, so I’m happy with the total amount.

Except for the exceptional year of 2020, this is better than I’ve done for any pre-2020 years. I’ve been using Goodreads and keeping track since 2015, so a fair few years now! For those interested, previous years reading challenges –

2021 – Goal: 50 Read: 94
2020 – Goal: 100 Read: 127
2019 – Goal: 50 Read: 73
2018 – Goal: 45 Read: 52
2017 – Goal: 30 Read: 51
2016 – Goal: 60 Read: 52
2015: Goal: 50 Read: 63

So yeah, I’m pretty happy with the amount I’ve read this year, and I might just squeeze in enough to exceed 2021!

Because I didn’t do the Book Blogger Hop last week, I thought I’d include it here today instead.

December 23rd – 29th
Did Santa bring you any books?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

Yes! Via my lovely boyfriend, and also thanks to some Christmas money I was able to pick up some more books yesterday too.

The books I received for Christmas were a couple from my Bookish Wishlist – You Say Potato and The Celts, as well as two graphic novels, Women of Marvel and Sandman: Volume 5. I’m really excited to dig into them! With my Christmas money, I picked up Roxane Gay’s Not That Bad from Queer Emporium in Cardiff, which I try to visit every time I go into the city centre, and Fear Ground and She Who Became the Sun from Waterstones. Which I think is a really good haul, especially as technically I shouldn’t buy more books. I admit, my partner always tries to get me books for most gift giving occasions, even when I’m on a self-imposed book buying ban!

What about you – did you meet your reading goals for this year? Did you get many books as presents?

And of course if you’re celebrating, have a safe and happy New Year, and I hope 2023 brings you joy.
