Book Blogger Hop: February 3rd – 9th

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, it was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

What was your favorite genre to read as a child? Do you still read that genre, or do you read something else now?
(submitted by Mark @ Carstairs Considers)

My reading tastes were as varied then as they are now, and I read a lot of different books, though if I think back, definitely the books I was most drawn to and enjoyed were Fantasy. I don’t think that would come as a huge surprise to anyone who follows this blog, and definitely not when you consider just how many books aimed at children contain at least some element of Fantasy. But I remember returning over and over to the books that took place in other worlds, or at least not-quite-our worlds, like Narnia and His Dark Materials.

I of course still read Fantasy, and still get a thrill from similar sort of stories, but alongside that I also read a lot of Horror and Romance now, and occasionally it is fun to pick up some of the newer Middle Grade/Children’s fiction coming out now, and seeing how much has changed since I was a kid.

What about you, have your genre preferences changed much since you were a kid?

  1. There are so many great middle grade fantasy out there right now. I am enjoying discovering it with my daughter. I read some fantasy during my childhood/teen years and enjoyed it, along with other types of books. Mysteries probably were my favorite though, if I had to pick one. I still love mysteries, but I also love other types of books. I like to mix it up. I still haven’t read the His Dark Material books. I really need to at some point. Thank you for sharing! I hope you have a great week.

  2. Hi Elle,

I am just letting everyone know that I follow on BBH, etc. that I am going to try something new (well, new for me) out. I know that there are other memes similar to this, but I just thought I would do it since Lia doesn’t blog any longer. So let’s see how it goes. I have joined a lot of other memes so maybe you could ‘pay it forward’ and join mine and pass me on if you would be so kind 😉
