Let’s Talk Bookish: Buying Books

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted with Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Book Nook Bits has hosted since April 2022.

Today’s topic is definitely something I am guilty of doing…

April 21st: Buying More Books Than You Can Read
(Laura @ Life Love Read)

Prompts: Do you buy a lot of books? Do you read all of the books you buy right away? Or do you buy more books than you can read? How do you choose which books you buy?

I do buy a lot. I am a lot better now and don’t tend to buy as many, but if I’m out and about in town and a book catches my eye, well, if I have the money, I’m likely to pick it up. And I’m terrible for not reading them straight away – quite often it’s a fair while before I actually get to them, but I kind of like knowing I have it there, especially if it’s one that’s been on my radar.

I tend to buy books even when I know there are so many waiting for me at home, but I especially feel guilty when books I’ve received as presents (normally from my partner) get pushed to the bottom of the pile to make way for newer ones. Whoops! Like I said above, I tend to buy books that catch my eye – because I’ve read the author before, or it’s in a series I’m enjoying, or I’ve seen some buzz around it on social media and in blogs, etc. Usually it’s something that makes me stop and go Yes I definitely need this one rather than browsing and picking up something at random!

So yeah, I do tend to buy more books than I can read, and at the moment I have a lot of books I’m trying to work through. But sometimes I just can’t help myself! And if you want to see the places I often pick up books, I did a list of my favourite bookshops a while back. All this without even mentioning the books I occasionally buy on discount for Kindle…

What about you – do you buy more than you can read? Or are you pretty good at keeping your book count low?
