Ah, yes, another look at my Goodreads Want to Read shelf. Some of these really do make me remember the time when I added them – I used to occasionally browse the Goodreads Recommendations, adding any book that caught my eye to my ‘Want to Read’ shelf. Usually, the recommendations were based on books I’d just read, so I figured if I liked them maybe I’d like these, hence why there are so many zombie books on here (zombie phase!). But we’re starting to get a bit more of a mix here, and as always I’m intrigued to see which books I still want to catch up on, eventually, and which ones my interest has waned in.

The Dead
Mark E. Rogers

Genre: Horror – Zombies
Published: January 1st, 1989
Normally, I’m shifting the zombie books off the shelf unless they sound really unique and different. This one kinds of sounds like it be somewhere in the middle, but it’s an old book now (published the year I was born, funnily enough) and I’d definitely be intrigued to see what kind of zombies were on pages at the end of the 80s. Kind of for historical reasons, I think I still want to read this.

Grey Dogs: Zombie Survival
Ian D.G. Sandusky

Genre: Horror – Zombies
Published: October 31st, 2010
This is one of the books from the big zombie trend back in the late 00’s. Like others I’ve previously looked at it, it doesn’t seem to offer anything much different from many of the other books at that time, and I read quite a few of them. There’s unfortunately little in the blurb that draws me to read this one.

The Road to the Dark Tower: Exploring Stephen King’s Magnum Opus
Bev Vincent

Genre: Fantasy – Non-Fiction Reference
Published: September 1st, 2004
I admit, this got added to the shelf around the time I was going through a huge Stephen King/Dark Tower phase. Like reading Stephen King continuously for a while, switching between books that linked into Dark Tower, and the Dark Tower books themselves. As someone who loves reading essays, criticisms, analysis of my favourite media, this one is still a want to read.

Magic in the Wind
Christine Feehan

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: July 1st, 2003
Hmm, this is a tricky one, on the one hand it’s a series and I’m really reluctant to start new series’ at the moment, unless it looks like it’ll totally grab me, but on the other there’s something intriguing about the early 00’s Paranormal Romance books. Yet, I do have the first four Immortals After Dark to read now so adding another series before getting through that…hmm…sorry, Magic in the Wind.

The Alcoholics
Jim Thompson

Genre: Mystery – Crime
Published: January 1st, 1953
I’m not sure about this one. Again, it’s a much older book, and I’m intrigued by some older books in the sense of they can be interesting to look back to, but I’m not a huge fan of crime (some I find great, others not so much!), and I feel like there might be stuff here that’s a bit too outdated, combined with it being part of a genre I’m not too into. We might cross paths one day, Jim Thompson, but unless I randomly end up with a copy I don’t think it’ll be via this particular book.

Three out of five gone isn’t bad – the numbers are coming down, though fairly slowly! As always, if you have any thoughts on my choices, if you’ve read any of these and agree or disagree with my verdict, I’d love to hear from you.
