That Dreaded TBR #55

Yes, I am back at it, trying to reduce my Goodreads want to read shelf five books at a time. I don’t think I’m doing too badly – if my calculations are correct, by this point I’ve gone through 270 books, and the next book on my shelf is currently 125, which means I have removed 146 books. Over half! I’m pretty happy with that, so let’s see if we can get rid of any more.

Part 54

Rules

Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
Order on ascending date added.
Take the first 5/10/however many books. If done again, start from where you left off.
Read the synopses of the books
Decide: should it stay or should it go?

125. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower: A Concordance #1
Robin Furth

Genre: Horror – Non-Fiction
Published: January 1st, 2003

I love books like this. To the point that, until now, I haven’t got rid of any of the similar books on this shelf, but I think until I actually get into some of the others, it just feels like there isn’t room for more companion books and such until I work out if I actually like them or enjoy them. So, for now, this one…

126. The Visible Man
Chuck Klosterman

Genre: Literary – Sci-Fi
Published: January 1st, 2011

This one just doesn’t grab me, at least not as much as I would like. I think I’d read it if someone I trusted suggested I read it, but I don’t think I’d go out of the way to read it.

127. Prince of Thorns
Mark Lawrence

Genre: Fantasy
Published: January 1st, 2011

This really had me leaning both ways. It’s not that I’m disinterested, as such, but there are so many excellent fantasy novels and series I haven’t yet had the chance to get to, I think one really has to grab me totally to have me contemplating reading it.

128. Discount Armageddon
Seanan McGuire

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Published: March 6th, 2012

It’s Urban Fantasy by Seanan McGuire and look at that cover -it’s stunning, I love it, so this one is a very easy decision to make.

129. In the Dead: Volume 1
Jesse Petersen

Genre: Horror
Published: June 12th, 2011

This could be really good, but it seems it’s stories to go alongside other novels, and I feel like if I picked this up without reading them, there’s the chance a lot will go over my head. So this one goes, but it’s very possibly I might read some of Petersen’s other work at some point and end up picking this up after.

4 out of 5 gone! I think that’s pretty good going. And the want to read shelf is coming down very, very slowly. We’ll get there, maybe, one day! I do need to make an effort to try and read some of the older books on there – I managed to shift ‘Under the Dome’ from Want to Read to Read last year, and it’s quite nice to see it gone. We’ll see how it goes. Are there any books you feel you’ve had on your TBR for way too long? Do some of your older ‘want to read’ choices surprise you at all?
