That Dreaded TBR #59

Another week, another look at the what-the-hell-was-past-Elle-thinking shelf on Goodreads! But that, I mean my want to read shelf, which is way too long and in need of a huge clear out, which I’ve been doing with these blog posts. And I realised I’m almost at number 60, which makes me kind of excited? It feels like a milestone!

Part 58

Rules

Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
Order on ascending date added.
Take the first 5/10/however many books. If done again, start from where you left off.
Read the synopses of the books
Decide: should it stay or should it go?

134. Willful Creatures
Aimee Bender

Genre: Fantasy
Published: August 16th, 2005

This actually really sounds like something I’d enjoy, and I definitely haven’t had a whole lot of collections pop up on the shelf so far. Reading the summary makes me really want to read this one.

135. The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead
Max Brooks

Genre: Horror
Published: September 1st, 2003

I know the exact reason I added this to my want to read: because I absolutely freaking loved World War Z. And anything that’s Max Brooks + zombies I think is worth checking out. This one I do still want to get a copy of, and give it a read, eventually.

136. The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks
Max Brooks

Genre: Horror
Published: January 1st, 2009

On the other hand, I don’t need ALL of Brooks’ work on the want to read – this is definitely something I want to pick up at some point, still, but it’s not a priority, and it’d likely be after getting hold of the actual Survival Guide.

137. The Zombie Survival Guide Journal
Max Brooks

Genre: Horror – Diary
Published: September 27th, 2011

Firstly, see above. Secondly, why did I add a journal to my want to read? It’s no surprise this one now has a “This item does not meet our guidelines” message because of course you can’t read a journal. I don’t even think this would be available now? Well, whatever, there’s one clear answer for this one.

138. The Devil You Know
Mike Carey

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Published: April 6th, 2006

At this point, more so than standalones, the first book in a series has to really grab my attention to make me want to pick it up. I love a good Urban Fantasy series, but there’s so many out there I already want to read, and though this one sounds intriguing, there’s nothing that stands out in the summary that makes me really sit up.

Status: Gone

3 gone out of 5! I’m very happy with that for this week, and even if it’s very, very slowly, I’m glad to see the Want to Read shelf come down. As always, if you have read any of these and want to point me to your reviews or share your thoughts, I’d love to hear them!
