I really liked this novella. It’s got a good balance of romance and humour, and it’s the kind of book that hits that sweet spot for Regency Romance. This is part of the 12 Days of Christmas historical romance series, but the ‘Christmas vibes’ aren’t heavily in the book, so it’s definitely suitable for any time of the year.

Camille has been in love with Tristan – her brother’s best friend – for a long time, but to save her home she gets engaged to a man who, quite frankly, she finds boring. I really liked Camille as a heroine – she runs her own botany business (which her intended does not support), and she does her best to ignore her clear feelings for Tristan. Tristan, on the other hand, realises his feelings for her but knows it might just be too late…though when he’s proved wrong, he refuses to let her go without a fight.

The banter between them was great, the chemistry was excellent, and it was hard not to cheer these two on. The side characters were written well, and Sumner did an excellent job at making a 120-page novella feel fully fleshed out and complete, something not all authors excel at!

I loved the way Camille stood up for herself and her determination to forge her own path, but equally I did like how Tristan was willing to help her at the point where her being a woman would block her going further. They were equally matched, and it was a very satisfying, deserved HEA.

If you’re looking for short, sweet, and fun, I think Chasing the Duke fits the bill brilliantly.
