Book Casting: Dan Stevens

It has been a long, long time since I did one of these posts, despite the fact I find them generally really fun. But I recently finished (finally) watching Downton Abbey, and despite (please note spoilers for Downton Abbey coming up!) Stevens’ abrupt departure from the show, he honestly was fantastic in it. Through his other roles, he’s also shown a wide range in his acting abilities, and we’ve gradually been getting to see more and more from him, not to mention the recent love thrown his way on social media. So, what recent books that I’ve read would he be perfect in any adaptions? The fact is, Stevens has proven he can do pretty much anything, so the hardest part of this is going to be narrowing the books down!

Previously: Scott Michael Foster / Hari Nef / Rahul Kohli

Roles I Know Him For: Downton Abbey, Beauty and the Beast, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Books

The Wedding Confession by J.J. Knight

Adaptation Type: Film – Rom-Com
Role: Drew Daniels

This would be a walk in the park for Stevens, and I think he’s got such great rom-com leading man energy – stepping into this role would give us a fun, enjoyable film, especially if paired with the right actress.

Saga by Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples

Adaptation Type: TV Series – Sci-Fi
Role: Marko

I might still be broken by Volume 9, and I don’t know how feasible a Saga TV series would be (but considering recent sci-fi game and graphic novels adaptations who knows?) but I think Stevens can pull off the tortured, torn husband/father really, really well, and he’d suit Marko, as well as it giving him an opportunity to stretch his acting muscles a bit. And who doesn’t want a bit of a broody Dan Stevens on our screen, preferably weekly?

Reluctant Immortals by Gwendolyn Kiste

Adaptation Type: TV Series – Horror
Role: Rochester

Firstly, this is an excellent take on Lucy Westenra and Bertha Mason, and I’d kill to see it on screen. As for Stevens, Rochester is very much a villain here, a charming, manipulative, abusive bastard who reaches across time to ensnare women, and it’d be a role for him to really sink his teeth into. We know he can do charming period hero, we know he’s a good lead, but this is the absolute flipside of that, and one I think he’d portray brilliantly.

Thoughts? Are there any books you’d love to see adapted with Stevens cast? Or maybe just ideal actors for particular books you’ve really loved. Honestly, to see any of these adapted would be amazing, with or without a particular favourite actor!
