That Dreaded TBR #69

Another look at my way-too-big Goodreads Want to Read shelf, and as always, there seems to be quite a few zombie books here. I keep hoping it’ll eventually move away from zombies, but I know I was going through a bit of a phase – as was the rest of the world – when these books were added to my Want to Read. It was December 2013, after all. Still, there doesn’t mean there aren’t some gems to be discovered here, books that might still grab my attention, but we’ll see.

158. After Life
Jaron Lee Kunth

Genre: Horror
Published: April 1st, 2009

More zombies. It sounds like it does something slightly different, but I think if I want a relationship-heavy zombie book I’d look more to romance for it. It also sounds very much “of it’s time”, so doesn’t particularly appeal anymore.

159. Z1n1: The Zombie Pandemic
Mitchell Layne Cook

Genre: Horror
Published: August 18th, 2010

Meh. The blurb really doesn’t tell me enough about this book, and it leaves me feeling like maybe there truly isn’t that much to the book itself. Nothing here grabs me, and too much of it looks like buzzwords for that period of time in 2010.

160. State of Decay
James Knapp

Genre: Horror
Published: January 19th, 2010

This is another instance of nothing in the blurb that particularly grabs me – it’s very short, and tells me nothing of what I might find in the novel itself. There has to be something that makes me go, “oh, yes!”, unfortunately that isn’t happening with this book.

Status: Gone

161. Getting Out of Jersey
Matthew Paul Esham

Genre: Horror
Published: May 29th, 2010

More zombies, another generic blurb that doesn’t actually tell me why I should pick up this book. Again, nothing here that draws me in.

Status: Gone

162. Breakers
Edward W. Robertson

Genre: Sci-Fi
Published: February 7th, 2012

Well, this one doesn’t have zombies at least. But it’s another post-apocalyptic tale. It offers something a bit different, at least, but I’m just not feeling this one. Not my cup of tea.

Status: Gone

Well, that’s interesting – 5/5 gone. Pretty pleased with that, though it’s definitely due to zombie/post-apocalyptic fatigue. Still, that’s five more books gone from my Want to Read shelf. Next time we’re sticking with December 2013, and I’m pretty sure there’s plenty more zombie books here, but hopefully the next lot will be a little more interesting. As always, if you’ve read these, and/or you agree/disagree with the choices, do let me know!
