Book Review: Rescued by the Mountain Man by Reagan Phillips

Format: ebook

Age: Adult
Genre: Romance – Contemporary
Series: Lovers of Little Bend (1)

Rating: 5/5 Stars

At only 37 pages, this very much falls into the ‘short and sweet’ category. I picked it up in the latest Stuff Your EReader event run by Romance Bookworms. These events are always a delight, and I’m never disappointed.

Rescued by the Mountain Man starts when Ethan, hiding away on a mountain, hears a scream. He follows it to find Callie, who he crushed on in high school, cornered by a bear. After rescuing her, Ethan realises she’s injured, Ethan takes her back to his cabin where the pair reconnect.

There’s little else to add to the plot without giving too much away, but there’s a strong spark between these two in this second chance romance, and it’s really fun seeing these two get to know each other a little after so many years apart. For such a short book, Phillips manages to squeeze in all the crucial elements, and both characters end the book a little changed for the better by their encounter, and solidifying their HEA, of course. And there’s a few breadcrumbs laid for the next instalment in the series.

We also get glimpses of their pasts, an idea of why Ethan hid himself away and rarely ventures into town, along with why Callie left and came back. It works really well, and it’s got just enough of everything without anything being dragged out.

As mentioned at the start, this is very much short and sweet, and if you’re looking for a fun, light book to read in one sitting, this could be it!
