That Dreaded TBR #71

It’s a been a bit since I did one of these, and I thought I’d dive back in seeing as we’re hitting a new year. There are a lot more books to get through, but I am finding it interesting seeing which books I was intrigued by back when I added these. These books were added way back in December 2013, so let’s see what Past Elle wanted to read back then.

159. The Ordinary Princess
M.M. Kaye

Genre: Fantasy
Published: January 1st, 1980

Aw, this sounds cute. I think around this time I was looking at ‘classic’ fantasy, for some reason? This one does sound very sweet, but too twee for my tastes now.

Status: Gone

160. The Sword in the Stone
T.H. White

Genre: Fantasy
Published: January 1st, 1938

This is definitely one I’ve long been curious about, and one I still want to read, along with the rest of The Once and Future King. I just still haven’t got around to it!

Status: Keep

161. The Phantom of the Opera
Gaston Leroux

Genre: Gothic
Published: January 1st, 1910

At some point long ago, I read a sort of retelling to Phantom, and really enjoyed it, and have, ever since, been meaning to pick up the original novel. I’ve never been a big fan of the musical (though I haven’t seen it on stage, so maybe that’s why) but always found the story itself intriguing, so I’d still like to try this.

Status: Keep

162. Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang
Joyce Carol Oates

Genre: Historical
Published: August 1st, 1993

Confession: I haven’t actually read any of Joyce Carol Oates’ work, but I definitely feel like I should, and this one sounds interesting enough!

Status: Keep

163. The Rum Diary
Hunter S. Thompson

Genre: Contemporary
Published: January 1st, 1998

I’m guessing this is here because I read (and enjoyed) Fear and Loathing, and was likely planning to read more Thompson books. Hm, on the one hand I still do want to read more of his work, on the other, I’m not sure how much I’ll enjoy this now. Still…I think I’ll give this a go.

Status: Keep

Have you read any of these? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and let me know if you agree or disagree with the choices I’ve made!
