Monday Moods: Joy

Monday Moods is a new bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words. The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

We all need some joy and escapism in our lives at some point, so this week please share books you’ve read that gave you joy, or books on your TBR you’re expecting to leave you in a joyful mood!

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Joy

Midnight Kiss on Ever After Street
Jaimie Admans

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: July 4th, 2023

I Want to Read This Because I know I used it last week with ‘romance’, but it fits very well for both – the Christmas book from this series was so lovely, and I’m expecting this to leave me feeling the same way! Sometimes you just need a book where the biggest crisis is will-they-or-won’t-they (and we all know, really, because it’s a romance we’ll get a HEA so they will!).

Goblin Quest
Jim C. Hines

Genre: Fantasy Comedy
Age: Adult
Format: Audiobook
Published: November 2nd, 2004

I Want to Read This Because it was suggested to me on Reddit when I was looking for a book to fit the prompt ‘quest’. And honestly, it sounds pretty funny! I’m hoping I get a few laughs out of this, and I do like when audiobooks go for a full cast.

Hazel Hill Is Gonna Win This One
Maggie Horne

Genre: Contemporary
Age: Middle Grade
Format: ebook
Published: October 18th, 2022

I Want to Read This Because it seems like a really cute, sweet book. It’s queer, too, which is always a bonus, and it’s so exciting for me to see queer Middle Grade books out there.

The Mercury in Me
Rachael Fernandes

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Young Adult
Format: ebook
Published: June 6th, 2024

I Want to Read This Because even that cover makes me smile! But also – what would Freddie Mercury do? How could I not want to read this???

The Monster MASH
Angie Fox

Genre: Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: August 28th, 2012

I Want to Read This Because it sounds fun! How could I resist that kind of title? And it’s about an army of gods and a doctor assigned to a MASH camp in said war with a sphinx, werewolf and vampire. I’m so excited for this.

I’m sure when I read them these books will bring me a lot of joy, but if you’ve read any of them I’d love to hear your thoughts. And feel free to share your recommendations of books which make you feel joy, too!
