Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted with Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Book Nook Bits has hosted since April 2022, with Dini at Dini Panda Reads as co-host from February 2025.
Let’s Talk Bookish 12th September:
Following the Reader
Prompts: What makes you want to follow a bookish account on social media? What makes you want to follow a book blog? Are you very discerning or do you follow back whoever follows you? Do you prefer or find it easier to engage with other readers on one platform over the other (i.e. blogs vs. bookstagram or booktok)?
I think the accounts I follow are very much influenced by what I’m looking for at the time – maybe they’re talking about a book and feel similarly to me, so I know our tastes align and I might get some good recommendations from them through their posts. Or they say something which resonates with me, or occasionally I follow an account because I’ve seen them around and quite like what they’re saying! As for book blogs, I unfortunately have less time now to read blog posts, but I do try and keep an eye on some – I am discerning, though I do also very much try to check out anyone who follows me, and similarly, if I like their blog I’ll give them a follow!
I used to prefer Twitter, but that all seems a bit wonky now and I don’t see half as many book accounts as I used to. I’m still sort of finding my feet with other social media sites, but nowadays I’m kind of leaning more towards newsletters – I find them easier to follow! What I do also tend to do is bookmark blogs I like, and occasionally I’ll dip in and read a few posts here and there.
I do find it’s harder and harder to find bookish accounts, though I try a little on TikTok I find it’s a platform I dip in and out of rather than follow consistently. Do you have any ideas about following accounts, favourite platforms, or suggestions for finding other readers?

Totally relate to this! I didn’t even touch on social media sites like Twitter or Bluesky in my LTB post today but I think I used to have the most engagement with other book bloggers on Twitter back in the day, and ngl, I really miss it! Bluesky is just not the same… I also find I have less time to blog hop these days and that’s changed the dynamic of my engagement quite a bit, I think! What I sometimes do to find other readers is look at the followers that my reader friends are following and then see if I can find any that I too would like to follow 🙂
Thanks for joining LTB this week!

hat makes total sense — I think a lot of us go through those shifts depending on how much time we have and which platforms feel the most welcoming at the moment. I really like what you said about following people who resonate with you or share recommendations that align with your taste — that’s such a natural and genuine way to build your circle.
I’ve actually written a post with some ideas on how to find and connect with other readers across different platforms (including newsletters and blogs, which you mentioned leaning towards!). 🙂
