Monday Moods: Holidays Freebie

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

This week’s Monday Moods is a holiday freebie, so what are you in the mood for this week? I thought, as my Christmas books are so heavily romance dominated, I’d spotlight books on my TBR that are non-romance winter holiday books! Sticking to three for today as…I really don’t have many non-romance Christmas/winter holidays book! Something to change for next year, I think.

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Non-Romance Holiday Books

Death Comes at Christmas
Edited by Marie O’Regan and Paul Kane

Genre: Crime
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: October 22nd, 2024

I Want to Read This Because I really do enjoy anthologies, and feel like I haven’t had a chance to read many in more recent years! Need to resolve that. I’m always a little hit or miss with crime fiction, but I think an anthology like this will help me find a few new to me authors I’ll enjoy longer works from.

The Dead of Winter
Sarah Clegg

Genre: Nonfiction – History – Mythology
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: November 12th, 2024

I Want to Read This Because this is a dive into the folkloric roots of Christmas, especially focusing on the darker side. It sounds incredibly interesting, and very different to the usually festive reads out there.

A Christmas Ghost Story
Kim Newman

Genre: Gothic Horror
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: October 8th, 2024

I Want to Read This Because I cannot begin to describe my love for Anno Dracula. It’s not the only Newman book I’ve read, and this isn’t the only one on my TBR, and I really should read more of his work. This seems like a good choice for either a Christmas in July read or maybe towards next Christmas.

If you have any non-romance Christmas/winter holiday recommendations, please let me know, as I am currently severely lacking!
