Monday Moods: Sports

Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!

Ah, sports! I have to admit, I am really not a sporty person. I used to be a lot more invested – mainly when I was at uni – but whether it’s spectating or playing, I much prefer to experience my sports through books. Especially romance. So, here are 5 sports themed books on my TBR. Let me know your own sports recommendations – romance or any other genre!

This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Sports

The Kennedy Rule
K.C. Carmichael

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 5th November, 2025
Sport: Hockey

I Want to Read This Because this was suggested to me by a friend who really knows her hockey romance. I’ve read a couple of hockey romances but not nearly enough, and I do tend to enjoy them, so I’m keen to read more.

Shoot Your Shot
Fiona Embers

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 14th March, 2024
Sport: Basketball

I Want to Read This Because okay, that previous statement about read a few that I’ve enjoyed can be applied to ‘sports’ as a whole, but I feel like I haven’t come across many that are about basketball, nor many where if it’s a male/female couple and only one is a sportsperson, it’s the woman. So this sounds pretty different and very intriguing.

Against the Boards
Cynthia Gunderson

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 7th September, 2023
Sport: Hockey

I Want to Read This Because brother’s friend, fake dating and hockey…feels like a fun, light read but with plenty of tension to enjoy! What more could a girl ask for?

In Your Court
Kit Haley

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Expected Publication: 16th July, 2026
Sport: Tennis

I Want to Read This Because tennis feels relatively underrepresented within sports romance, at least as far as I know! I was intrigued by this one especially because it’s an American and an Australian, and I just think that combo is super interesting, plus rivals to lovers!

Lucky 22
Ashley Eckstein & Samantha Chase

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Expected Publication: 8th September, 2026
Sport: Baseball

I Want to Read This Because the blurb starts with “Ella Rose Holt believes in magic.” and I just love that, it really grabbed my attention. It sounds like a relatively sweet book, too, and I like the idea of an actor and baseball player. Be interesting to see if this holds up to expectations!

Have you read any of these and want to share your thoughts? Or maybe you have a favourite sports book you want to share or some on your own TBR – just let me know!
