Book Blogger Hop: December 2nd – 8th

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, it was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy @ Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

Do you go back and reread the previous book before starting the sequel? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)

I don’t, but sometimes I really wish I could! Depending on the series, it might be that I only read the first book relatively recently, so can dive into the next remembering key details. I know with things like The Hunger Games, Folk of the Air, and Shades of Magic, I got into reading the first book relatively late, so all three were out by the time I was ready to read the last. Actually, with Hunger Games and Shades of Magic, I read the first books then picked up the second and third together.

Funny story – I picked up the other Shades of Magic books when I went to a signing with V.E. Schwab. I excitedly went to the till, picked up the two books I wanted – Near Witch and what I thought was Shades of Magic #2 – and re-joined my partner in the queue. Then I realised my mistake; I’d picked up book 3 instead! What an error! But my boyfriend being the lovely guy he is, he kind of sighed, went to the till, and came back with book 2. It actually worked out really well because now my whole set is signed, and I was able to go straight from 2 to 3.

I think if I did have more reading time, I would like to go back and read a previous book before the sequel if it’s been a long time since I read the previous one, but unfortunately with the amount of books on my TBR I very rarely get a chance to reread anything. Maybe one day.

What about you? Do you reread a book before starting the sequel?
