That Dreaded TBR #47

Another instalment of my Dreaded TBR series, clearing the books on my Want to Read shelf dependent on whether they still interest me or not, and sometimes being slightly baffled at some of past me’s decisions! So let’s get to it.

Part 46

Rules

Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
Order on ascending date added.
Take the first 5/10/however many books. If done again, start from where you left off.
Read the synopses of the books
Decide: should it stay or should it go?

Kraken
China Miéville

I was going to remove this, purely because although I do want to read China Miéville’s work, I have another book of his from an earlier round of this still on my Want to Read. But then I read the blurb and…yeah, I would like to get to this sooner than I would if I removed it. It just sounds really fun and entertaining, and one I’m keen to dig into.

Don’t say her name
Cindy Ponds Newell

I know they say don’t judge a book by it’s cover, but it’s really not practical advice when there are so many great options out there (writers, seriously: your cover is so so important). Unfortunately, this cover doesn’t give me much faith in the book at all. I think this is going to be a solid miss for me.

Status: Gone

Lullaby
Chuck Palahniuk

I’ve read a fair few of Palahniuk’s books and usually find them darkly entertaining and fascinating. I don’t think I’ve read his stuff for years though, and would like to catch up a little. I’m definitely still interested in this one.

That said…

Doomed
Chuck Palahniuk

I found Damned to be mildly entertaining, but not as good as Palahniuk’s other work. Still, I wouldn’t mind returning to the world in the sequel and at least finishing the duology. Maybe this one will be a touch more memorable.

Ægypt
John Crowley

Um, I kind of find it hard to grasp all of what it’s the blurb for this one – it sounds mildly interesting, but there’s a strong possibility it could be quite outdated? It just sounds like there’s a whole lot going on in this, and it feels like I’d be taking a big chance trying to read this one as opposed to some more modern stuff. It could go either way, but I won’t be picking this up anytime soon.

Status: Gone

So there we have it – the next five books, and two of them now gone! It’s going down, though very slowly. Hopefully I’ll eventually get this to a manageable level, but it’s going to take a long time. As always, if you’ve read any of these or even are planning to, I’d love to hear from you – do you agree with my decisions? Do you think I’ve got rid of a book I should keep, or keeping a book that you just don’t think is that good? Let me know.
