Top Ten Tuesday: Random Books Grabbed From My Shelf

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

For this week’s Top Ten, due to time constraints I’m sticking to picking five out from my shelves.

May 2nd: Five Books I Randomly Grabbed From My Shelf

The Boys, Volume 1: The Name of the Game

Status: Read

I started with my big bookcase in my office, which currently contains an almost-too-full top shelf of graphic novels. Out of these, my finger landed on the first volume of The Boys. I really liked this one – it felt different and fresh, and I managed to read it not that long before the series came out. Well worth checking out, especially if you’ve been enjoying the onscreen version.

Chilling Horror Short Stories: Gothic Fantasy

Status: To Be Read

I really need to read this – it’s been on my shelf for a long, long time. It’s a big book, and it’s absolutely stunning. Sometimes I find myself just staring at and admiring it. Flame Tree really did an amazing job with this, but almost 500 quite big-with-small-type pages, this is a hell of a tome. I’ll get there eventually.

Ace of Spaces by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé

Status: To Be Read

I have no excuse for why I haven’t read this yet – I really should! I’m not a huge fan of thrillers in general, but this sounds like it’s got enough to it I might enjoy it. Maybe it’ll change my mind about the genre, but we’ll see. Like many other books on my TBR, I’ll be looking for somewhere in my reading challenges to fit this one in.

Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch

Status: To Be Read

I keep remembering this series and how much I loved it, and how much I appreciated someone lending me their signed copy (though they didn’t realise – I took extra, particular with that one!) of the first book, and I haven’t yet had the chance to read the third! I really do want to though, as this is one of those series’ I want to return to.

The Fiends in the Furrows II: More Tales of Folk Horror

Status: To Be Read

I love horror anthologies, and I want to read more folk horror, so this should be really good – why haven’t I read it yet? I find myself asking that question a lot, to be honest. For this one in particular, it’s a mix of time and it just not catching me when I’m looking for my next read. The cons of being more of a mood reader, I suppose. Still…still I should try and get to this soon-ish, so we’ll see.

Five random books from my shelves. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts if you’ve read any of these!
