The last time I did one of these was during Blogtober, but I honestly really enjoy looking over books I’ve missed or seeing which ones I’ve actually read. This has been really fun to do, so I’m going to be continuing this through the year. The list comes from Goodreads’ 100 New Horror Recommendations for (Nearly) Every Kind of Reader

Let’s show you some killer real estate!
The September House
Carissa Orlando

This sounds intriguing, especially with the blending of gothic into modern, something that always intrigues me, and the apparent stubbornness of the main character, Margaret. Already I’m curious about the house, the characters and what might have happened to Margaret’s husband, Hal.
A Haunting on the Hill
Elizabeth Hand

As a fan of The Haunting of Hill House, I really want to give this one a go! The first authorised novel to return to Hill House sounds intriguing, and I’d love to see how Hand tackles it.
The Militia House
John Milas

‘War’ feels like it should be everywhere in horror, and it’s definitely present in a lot, even if it’s in an ‘inspired by’ kind of way, but it feels like not many writers tackle it head on – maybe there’s a hesitation there in dealing with something with no direct experience of it, but the overall absence of ‘war horror’ definitely marks this one out as pretty unique. This one also has a blurb from Roxanne Gay, and honestly, that makes me really want to pick it up.
The Handman Method: A Story of Terror
Nick Cutter, Andrew F. Sullivan

Status: Not Interested
Hmm…I can’t put my finger on it, but something about this one just really doesn’t appeal to me? On the surface it sounds like it might be enjoyable, but the summary just sounds a bit flat. I think I’ll skip this one. For now, anyway!
As always, if you’ve read any of these and would like to share your thoughts, please do so! And if you have any haunted house (or other locations!) recommendations, please do let me know!

Thanks for this series! I picked up several books I’d like to read that i hadn’t heard off!
