Let’s Talk Bookish: Multiple Copies of Books

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted with Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Book Nook Bits has hosted since April 2022, with Dini at Dini Panda Reads as co-host from February 2025.

As I missed this topic at the start of the month, today seemed like a good time to return to it and share my thoughts.

Let’s Talk Bookish 1st 13th August:
Multiple Copies of Books

Prompts: Do you have multiple copies of any books? What makes you want to get more than one copy of a certain book? What books do you have multiple copies of? Are there any books that you want to get more copies of in the future?

I do have a small number of books where I have multiple copies. Usually it’s because I like getting them in different formats – if I’m looking to reread something, for example, I might get it on audio to experience it in a different way. Or if I read it as an ebook, I might then pick up a physical copy at some point to revisit it, though this usually happens with the books I think my partner would really like, as he doesn’t read ebooks.

What I don’t tend to do anymore is pick up special editions, and I try to avoid buying multiple copies of a book in the same format, if I can help it. It’s largely a money issue however, but also if I buy a special edition of a book, I want to be able to ensure I will get value for money, and would definitely read it again! There are some books I would like more new copies of, as mine are falling apart, but for now, I’ll stick to what I have.

As for books I want more copies of – well, sometimes I find myself browsing The Folio Society, and pondering what I would pick up from there if I had the money. And if I came across any of their books second-hand, I think I’d pick up a beloved book, whether I owned a copy or not. So, it’s less that there are specific books I want multiple copies of, and more that there are some books I’d definitely pick up to reread and enjoy in a different format. Other than that, I often keep an eye out for full cast audio versions of books I own, as these can be a really fun way to revisit them.

  1. I agree with you on it often being a case of having different formats to read a book in although I’m trying to use my library as much as possible to borrow books as ebooks and only spend money on the physical version. Not always possible or course! Another time I find myself buying multiple copies is if I find the book in another language. I tell myself it’s so I can practice reading in one of the other languages I speak which is probably 80% the reason and the other 20% is to have a guilt-free way to get another copy (or do another reread) of some of my favourite books!
