Let’s Talk Bookish: Romance Novels

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted with Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Book Nook Bits has hosted since April 2022, with Dini at Dini Panda Reads as co-host from February 2025.

LTB is currently on hiatus while the co-hosts take a very well deserved break, but as I took my own hiatus back in February, it seemed like a good time to dive into some of the prompts I missed back then! I’ll include the original dates in my posts, too.

Let’s Talk Bookish 13th February:
Romance Novels

Prompts: It’s almost Valentine’s Day, which means that the most popular book genre is bigger than ever! Do you like to read romance novels? Who are your favourite fictional couples? Which characters from different books or series do you think would be perfect for each other?

I love romance! I love that it’s a guaranteed HEA, that there is such a huge variety, that you can find a lot of diversity within the genre and there really is something for everyone. You want something light and fluffy, or maybe prefer a bit more darkness? You want to completely escape in a cosy fantasy world, or see two enemies become lovers against the backdrop of a fantasy war? There’s different levels of heat, there’s historical and contemporary and sci-fi and fantasy, not to mention all the subgenres within the subgenres. A good romance will have excellent characters. It never surprises me that it’s the most popular book genre.

Favourite fictional couples from recent reads are –

  • Rowan & Sloane (Butcher & Blackbird, Brynne Weaver)
  • Sebastian & Kaderin (No Rest for the Wicked, Kresley Cole)
  • Leovander & Sebastian (Sorcery and Small Magics, Maiga Doocy)
  • Lachlain & Emmaline (A Hunger Like No Other, Kresley Cole)
  • Alisha & Kendra (Her Rival Dragon Mate, Arizona Tape)
  • Charlotte & Mary (The Unlikely Pursuit of Mary Bennet, Lindz McLeod)

Like I said, I’m sticking to recents, but not mentioned above are works by some romance writers I adore – Jaimie Admans, Talia Hibbert, and Chloe Liese. I am hoping to read more romance during the rest of the year than I have so far in 2026, so this list might change if I looked again in December!

I’m not too great at pairing up different characters from books – mainly because if I fall in love with a couple, I love them as a couple! I find the crossover part of my brain more activated when it comes to TV shows – as an example, now that I’ve caught up on Grey’s Anatomy and its various spinoffs, including Station 19, when I’m watching 911 I can’t help but wonder what would happen in Seattle’s 19 met LA’s 118! I definitely think there’d be some sparks between Buck and Travis (though who does Buck not have sparks with?), and Andy and Eddie would get on platonically in a beautiful way. Similarly, when watching Heated Rivalry, I was struck by how similar Travis and Shane were in terms of their own feelings towards their own sexuality, and it made me think that if they ever met, they would clash so much! But I think each would have some good advice for the other (again, in a platonic way though).

I would, however, love to hear about your crossover pairings! From books or TV or film! Let me know below and if you took part in this LTB back in Feb, link me to your post.
