Monday Moods is a weekly bookish meme created and hosted by Unwrapping Words (aka, me!). The premise is simple: every week, there’s a new ‘mood’, ranging from tropes to genres or actual moods (happy, sad, etc). On a Monday, feel free to post about books on your TBR, books you’d recommend, or a mix – whatever you like – that fits the ‘mood’ prompt. And of course, you can use your own if you’re not fussed on a particular one!
As it’s Pride Month, today we’re celebrating Queer Joy! Queer Joy can come in as many different forms as there are queer identities, and as well as considering queer history and the current issues facing our community today, it’s important to also take moments of joy. To celebrate what it means to be queer and to do the things that bring us joy!
This Week, I’m in the Mood For…
Queer Joy
Becoming a Bi-con
Sarah Zane

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 24th September, 2024
I Want to Read This Because it just sounds so cute! Sapphic rivals-to-lovers, fake dating, popstar romcom…it ticks all the boxes for something absolutely delightful!
Queer Up: An Uplifting Guide to LGBTQ+ Love, Life and Mental Health
Alexis Caught

Genre: Nonfiction – Mental Health – Self Help
Age: Young Adult/Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 20th January, 2022
I Want to Read This Because this one is more targeted at queer teens, but quite frankly, not all of us got to be queer teens! (Shout out to my fellow children of Section 28!) I bet there’s stuff in here that can help all of us, but also, I think educating ourselves on how to help younger queer folk is especially important – maybe you don’t have a queer teen in your life right now, but maybe you have young niblings, or friends with children, etc. There’s nothing wrong with putting ourselves in a position – as queer elders or allies – to help the generation coming up behind us.
Blessed by the Cupid Distribution System
Robin Jo Margaret

Genre: Fantasy Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 23rd July, 2024
I Want to Read This Because it sounds adorable! Set around Valentine’s Day, Iris is single and a cupid arrives to help her find a partner. Of course, the pair can’t quite keep their feelings from growing. Look at that cover! I think I’m going to really enjoy it.
Queer Country
Shana Goldin-Perschbacher

Genre: Nonfiction – Music
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 22nd March, 2022
I Want to Read This Because although I’m not a huge country fan, I do think music often gets overlooked when we’re considering queer books and history. Until relatively recently, most artists we associate with ‘queer music’ are cishet, so I think anything spotlighting queer artists in different genres is worth investigating more. Especially for a genre like country which has a certain reputation for being unwelcoming for margenalised groups. I’m looking forward to educating myself on this!
A Hex on Honeysuckle Lane
Caroline Laine

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Age: Adult
Format: ebook
Published: 27th June, 2024
I Want to Read This Because witchy paranormal sapphic romance with rivals-to-lovers – how can I not be excited for this one?
Are there any books on your TBR or that you’ve read recently that you think fit with queer joy? As always, drop your recommendations or links to lists, reviews etc in the comments.
