That Dreaded TBR #6

Yep, time to once more try and reduce my Goodreads to-read shelf. Had a mixed bag with this recently, let’s see if we can try and clear any books today!

Part One / Part Two / Part Three Part Four / Part Five

I originally saw this on Becky’s Book Blog

Rules

Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
Order on ascending date added.
Take the first 5/10/however many books. If done again, start from where you left off.
Read the synopses of the books
Decide: should it stay or should it go?

Notes from a Small Island – Bill Bryson

I read Bill Bryson’s book about the USA many years ago, and remember really enjoying it. He’s a funny, witty writer with great observations, and I think this kind of look at the UK would be entertaining. Really is one I hope to eventually read.

Status: Keep

Past Mortem – Ben Elton

I really do like Ben Elton’s work. I read a lot of his stuff in my teens and early 20s, and the satire in them is brilliant. For those who aren’t aware, Elton was behind both The Young Ones and Blackadder TV series’. I still want to read this, and probably any other books of his I’ve not yet come across.

Chart Throb – Ben Elton

Yep, another Ben Elton book, this one tackling the whole reality talent television craze. See above for my thoughts on Ben Elton, and like the above, I still do want to check this one out.

Status: Keep

Sweet Little Lies – Bianca Sloane

This is a Thriller, and when it comes to Crime and Thriller novels something about them has to really grab me for me to want to read it, and keep reading it. A quick glance over the reviews shows there’s some content here I don’t think I’d like, and the characters themselves are apparently pretty unlikeable. Which sometimes works, but honestly? This one just isn’t for me.

Status: Gone

The Stand: Captain Tripps

A graphic novel, based on what is a fantastic post-apocalyptic novel by someone who is, quite frankly, one of my all time favourite writers? Yes please! I’ve read some of the Dark Tower graphic novels and really enjoyed them, and I think King’s work does tend to translate well to this format. So yeah, I do still want to check this out. Though probably not for a long while, considering, well, everything.

Status: Keep

Another…err not great installment. I only removed one this time, but the list is coming down, though fairly slowly. Still, it’s reduced a fair bit since I first started doing this, and maybe I’ll have more luck next time. We’ll see.
