Reading Challenges Update #5

We’re into another month and that brings us halfway through the year! Still not quite sure where the time has gone, but the sun is shining and the weather is getting warmer, so can’t complain too much (until it gets too hot…). It’s got to the point where I don’t think I’m going to fully complete any of these challenges, but that’s okay, lesson learnt for next year that I should maybe stick to one, or even smaller ones! I’m still enjoying doing them though, and that’s the most important thing.

Reading Challenges / Update #1 / Update #2 / Update #3 / Update #4

Goal – 42/70 (+11)

Disney Reading Challenge
10/40 (+5) Prompts Completed

Read

Snow White & The Seven Dwarves – a book with a number in the title / or 1-7 in a series

I enjoyed The Stranger Times, but maybe not quite as much as I thought I would. I do have #2, but I’m not really in any rush to get to it.

Beauty & The Beast – re-read a favourite book/a book you’d read again

I’ve been meaning to re-read Old Man Logan for quite a while, and having literally finished all the other graphic novels on my shelf, I felt it was pretty much about time. Glad I did too, I enjoyed it!

The Jungle Book – a book where the MC has your dream job

I finally finished reading Stephen King’s The Dark Half! I liked this one, and the MC is, of course, a writer. It’s been a fair while since I read any Stephen King, so it was great to give this one a go.

The Rescuers – a book with a society/club

I freaking adored The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches – this book was just so sweet, with a compelling plot, lovely characters, and a great exploration of the difference between nice and kind.

The Sword in the Stone – a book that mentions a historical figure

I really like the Great Courses series, and The Life and Works of Jane Austen was no exception. This really nicely dives not just in Austen’s work, but the society around her and explores how Jane was influenced by this, as well as her lasting legacy. Really great if you have an interest in Austen and the regency era which, as you can probably tell by now, I most definitely do.

Books to Read: A Terrible Kindness, The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi, The Rose Daughter

2023 Tarot Reading Challenge
6/184 (+1) Prompts Completed

The Magician – a story with magical elements

Another instance of using one book to cover two prompts – for this one I used The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, and it’s such a good book it deserves to be used for multiple prompts! Hoping to make more progress on this one this month

Books to Read: The Harrowing of Doom, Rebel Witch, Queer Heroes of Myth and Legend

Netflix Movies & TV Shows
5/24 (0) Prompts Completed

No change with this one for May, but there definitely will be in June!

Currently Reading

Anne with an “E” – Historical Romance

I picked The Rake for this one – it’s been on my NetGalley TBR for a while, so this seemed like a good opportunity to crack on with it! At the time of writing, I’ve just started it – I’m a handful of pages in, and it seems okay so far!

Books to Read: The Good Luck Girls, Made in Manhattan, My Own Worst Enemy

Will hopefully make more progress on these challenges in the next month. I feel like I definitely read a lot in May, it just so happened that most of it was outside the reading challenges! But I know there’s some really fun looking books coming up on these, so fingers crossed I can clear more off now in the next few weeks!
