Top Ten Tuesday: April Showers

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This one was harder than I expected! I tried really hard to find books with rain on the cover, but…I apparently haven’t read many, despite going back through my whole Goodreads reading history. Not many ones I would want to feature in a ‘top’ list, anyway, so this week it’s a top four list rather than top ten. Still, these are all great books that I really enjoyed when reading.

Top Four April Showers – Books With Rain on the Cover

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King

Genre: Thriller
Age: Adult
Published: June 3rd, 2014

This is one of those series where I picked up the first book, loved it, and…still haven’t got around to continuing. I do want to though, as I did really like this, and it’s King. I love the cover for this though, actually all the covers, with the focus on the umbrellas and rain. It puts a really striking scene front and centre.

La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman

Genre: Fantasy
Age: Young Adult
Published: October 19th, 2017

Again, really enjoyed this book, but haven’t got around to picking up the series. There is a lot of rain in this one, with relentless rain causing floods. It’s a prequel to His Dark Materials, and definitely a series I’ll continue eventually.

The Supreme Lie by Geraldine McCaughrean

Genre: Sci-Fi – Dystopian
Age: Young Adult
Published: April 15th, 2021

This wonderfully dystopian novel, like La Belle Sauvage, centres around consistent rains causing flooding, though the issues explored here are very different, as maid Gloria steps in as a faux Madame Suprema, after her mistress runs away. It’s witty and satirical and looks at politics when pushed to the brink in an environmental disaster.

Spider-Man: Reign by Kaare Andrews

Genre: Sci-Fi
Age: Adult
Published: February 1st, 2007

It has been a while since I last read this, so I can’t completely remember if it is rain or something else on the cover, but it looks like rain to me. Either way, I love this cover, the story is great, and it’s fairly dystopian and dark.

As always if you’d like to share any recommendations or your thoughts on the books above, please do!
