That Dreaded TBR #79

Back with more books on That Dreaded TBR. I feel like I’ve done pretty well recently in getting rid of books, so hopefully that continues as currently my Goodreads Want to Read shelf is way, way too big, definitely way beyond “more than one girl can read in a lifetime” levels. So let’s keep going!

Part 78

RULES

Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
Order on ascending date added.
Take the first 5/10/however many books. If done again, start from where you left off.
Read the synopses of the books
Decide: should it stay or should it go?

172. Dark Prince
Christine Freehan

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: 8th March, 1999

There’s something compelling about older paranormal romance, and revisiting books I was a bit too young for at the time. I think I’m influenced a lot by currently reading the Immortals After Dark series. I want to check this out and see if I enjoy it as much as IAD!

173. Of Saints and Shadows
Christopher Golden

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Published: 1st June, 1994

I’ve heard of Golden but not read much of his stuff, if any (I may have come across short stories in anthologies or on podcasts!), and this one does sound interesting. Plus, vampires!

174. Necroscope
Brian Lumley

Genre: Horror
Published: 26th June, 1986

So we’ve apparently moved on from zombies (finally) and into vampires, and I’m good with that. I have more of a fondness for vampires anyway, but I think typically creatives do more interesting stuff with them than they tend to for zombies (though admittedly, there is more you can do with vampires). As for this particular book, it’s been on my TBR for an incredibly long time, and I’m pretty sure I actually have a copy of it somewhere.

175. The Vampire Tapestry
Suzy McKee Charnas

Genre: Horror
Published: 1st January, 1980

Intriguing enough to grab my attention, and sounds like it could be an interesting take on vampires. Plus, there’s just something interesting about going back and reading older books, seeing how the genres and tropes have evolved (or not, in some cases).

176. Lord of the Dead
Tom Holland

Genre: Horror
Published: 1st January, 1995

For various reasons, I don’t think I’d enjoy this like I would the books listed above. Although it sounds relatively intriguing, there’s enough about the author to put me off.

Status: Gone

Only one gone today, but that’s okay! One is better than none, after all, and we are talking about vampires here – I think I’ll struggle with getting rid of any vampire books that crop up on this! And of course, if you’ve read any of these, agree or disagree with my decisions, please do let me know – I’d love to hear from you.
