Read

101 Dalmatians – Cruella de Vill – a book with a black and white cover

Meet the Georgians was a really great, informative and entertaining book, and the last book I read in 2023 – I pretty much focused on finishing it on NYE. I feel like I learned a lot from this.

Pirates of the Caribbean – Curse of the Black Pearl – a book set on a boat

I wasn’t as impressed with Pirate’s Prize – I found it a bit too middling, the MC too frustrating. Still, I’m glad I read it and it fitted this prompt perfectly.

Read

Strength – a book with an underdog

The Supreme Lie was a really smart, clever book that had me totally gripped and cheering on the MC throughout, even when she makes mistakes because of her youth. I don’t think I’ll be forgetting this particular book any time soon.

Wheel of Fortune Reversed – The last book in a series

I really liked The Ever Cruel Kingdom, and I’m glad I finally read it – Chupeco is a great writer, and The Never Tilting World books make for a great duology.

Strength Reversed – A book featuring an arrogant character

I really enjoyed Girl, Goddess, Queen, where we have a very ambitious Persephone who fights against her father’s plans, and a soft, gentle Hades who just wants to be left in peace. It was a really great take on the story and I loved every moment.

Death Reversed – A book featuring the “save the world” trope

Possibly because I listened to this as an audiobook rather than reading it, but I liked Siege and Storm much more than Shadow and Bone – there’s also that bit more going on, the introduction of a few interesting characters, and less focus on The Darkling.

I feel like I did pretty well for the last month of the year, though I’m hoping to do much better in my challenges for 2024. I’m doing more challenges, but there’s less books involved, so maybe this year I’ll actually complete some!
