Time for another look at the Most Popular Horror list, posted last year on Goodreads. A lot of these are ones I haven’t heard of, which is kind of exciting as a fair few are now ones I definitely want to check out. The full list is here.

The Children on the Hill

Not sure how this passed me by, but it sounds really good. Definitely grabs me from that blurb, and sounds like something I’d particularly enjoy, with enough mystery to keep me guessing.
Hidden Pictures

The premise/summary sounds interesting enough, but a quick scroll through the reviews shows me this is not going to be something I enjoy. It sounds bad, and like it has quite a few dog-whistles in it? Yeah, not for me.

Oh this sounds so good? I definitely want to read this one, can’t believe it slipped under my radar. Horror and Magical Realism and Shakespeare? Yes please!
The Girl in Red

I may have heard of this one at some point? I’m not entirely sure. Henry was kind of on my radar before I read an arc of one of her books, and I enjoyed it enough I’d happily read more from her. She seems to do quite well in retellings, too, and I’m always intrigued by different interpretations of fairy tales.

Review
This is a top rated horror book for me, and definitely deserves its place on this list. I read this around the time it was published, and it was kind of creepy reading in the midst of everything that was happening in 2020. Definitely circumstances that could have sunk the book, but it deservedly rose up and, I think, got the response it deserved.
If you’ve read any of these, I would love to hear your thoughts! Hopefully I’ll eventually get around to reading at least a few of those I seem to have missed.
