Blogmas Day 16: The Christmas Tree Book Tag

Yes, it’s another Christmas book tag. This time, this one was created by…me! I thought Blogmas seems like a great time to create a new book tag, using the beloved tree for inspiration. Is your tree up yet? I love seeing the different ways people decorate trees, so if you feel up for it, feel free to share a pic of yours in the comments below. We haven’t got ours up yet at the time of writing this, but if it comes out well I’ll try and share a picture before the big day.

RULES

The rules are simple – answer the questions, but please credit me (Elle) as the creator and link back to this post. Feel free to drop a link in the comments, too. Tag as many or as few people as you like, but most of all, have fun.

The Christmas Tree Book Tag

Let’s get this tree set up! First things first, putting the tree up, checking the branches, making sure it’s in exactly the right place…
Name a book either with a green cover, or featuring plants? (Or pick one of each! It’s a big tree)

Green cover – Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater (Review). Plants – This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron (Review).

Time to string up the lights!
Give us a book that dazzled and delighted you

The Supreme Lie by Geraldine McCaughrean. I was surprised at just how good this book was, and how clever in the use of satire.

Time for some tinsel!
Name a book that gave you a pleasant surprise

I was kind of surprised at how much I really enjoyed Hannah Whitten’s The Foxglove King (review) – I can’t put my finger on why I was expecting something less, but I really enjoyed it.

Next out of the box: baubles!
What’s a book that made you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

This Christmas by Emma Heatherington – it’s a really sweet book!

Let’s hang some chocolates up now
What’s a book that looks so tantalizing, you can’t/couldn’t wait until you could open it up?

I’m going to go for Gay Aliens and Queer Folk, by Emily Garside. The cover is stunning! I’m so excited for when I finally read this one

Finally, we have the star, right at the top of the tree and the last thing to put up
What genre have you read the most this year, and what was your favourite book within that genre?

According to Storygraph, the genre I’ve read most this year is…Romance! That really doesn’t surprise me as I have been reading a lot of it this year. I’ve read 30 Romance books, though Fantasy comes in a close second with 26 (3rd is, interestingly, LGBTQIA+, with 21). My favourite romance of 2023 – If Only You, by Chloe Liese (review).

What do you think? This was actually really fun to come up with, and I haven’t created a book tag in a long time. Feel free to pass around or even amend slightly if you feel inclined, but like I mentioned above please do credit me if you use this.
