For today’s Blogmas post, I thought I’d dive in to the stats on my Goodreads Year in Books. There is, of course, still a bit left of 2023, but I figured with it being Blogmas it was a good time to dive in. I may also do a post about my Storygraph stats, as they’re pretty interesting to look over my reading habits for the last year.

My 2023 In Books
Let’s start with the number of books read so far, shall we? As I write this, and when it’s posted, we’re only a little more than halfway through the month, and I know I’ll definitely get one, maybe two more books read by the end of the year. At the moment, I’m on 99, which I’m really pleased with. I set my goal at 70 this year, but various circumstances resulted in me having that bit more time to read. The only time I’ve managed to read over 100 was back in 2020, so getting just above 100 is something I’m happy about. In 2022 I did manage to read 95, and in 2021 it was 94, so I know I’m not far off 2023’s total even in a ‘normal’ year.
I exceeded my pages read from last year, too, with a total of 30,459 pages for 2023, whereas this number in 2022 was 24,301. My shortest book is a recent one – Once Upon a Christmas Eve, by Elodie Nowodazij, a prequel novella leading into #Most Eligible Scrooge. The longest wasn’t Under the Dome, as I would have suspected, though as the version of His Dark Materials listed as the longest was actually a BBC Dramatization, I think my actual longest book would, more accurately, be Under the Dome.
Average Book Length – 307 pages. That looks right to me, as though I have read some pretty long books this year, I think I’ve likely read more around the 300-350 page mark. I always find most and least shelved to be kind of interesting, and here my most shelved is Shadow and Bone, which I read this year after absolutely loving the Netflix series. My least shelved is also one of the most recent books on my list, but if you’re looking for a festive, cute Christmas romance, it would be great to see #Most Eligible Scrooge get more love.
Average rating was 3.9, which lines up with how I’ve felt with a lot of the books I picked up this year. The highest rated on Goodreads is Cat Voleur’s Revenge Arc, which is a great book and really deserves that spot!
Overall, I think I’m pretty pleased with my ‘stats’ this year! It’s not something I pay much attention to through the year, but I do like having a look when it comes in. If all goes to plan, I likely won’t be able to read as much next year, though I’ll probably keep my goal at 70, but aim for somewhere around 90. Guess only time will tell how well I do!
